But what to do?

About the mobile playmaker issue? Tighten up the radius to 1/4 mile (or less).

Basically, Buzztime is taking the easy way out, because they don't want customer service complaints from people who can't get the mobile playmaker to work. That's nice and easy for the customer service people, but truthfully, it would only affect a handful of players (and, once a problem bar is pointed out, they could manually "fix" that location). On the other hand, by taking the easy way out on the one side, they are causing confidence issues in their games with their dedicated player base on the other, which could potentially cost them a *lot* of trouble (reduced player count, which could mean bars killing the service). Penny wise and pound foolish.

If the player in question is using the old cell phone gambit, then the only solution is to make sure the feeds at all locations are synchronous (which should be done anyway, of course, as that would also help defeat the mobile playmaker cheaters).

By the way, is the cell phone gambit actually illegal by Buzztime's rules? That is, does it fall under this:
Buzztime rules for Smartest Bar competition wrote:
Attempts, as solely determined by Buzztime, to abuse, cheat, circumvent or manipulate data or the Promotion will result in participant disqualification.

(I'm looking for a legalistic ruling ... I know it violates the spirit of the game and all common decency).

If the BT computer has been reset a minute or 2 later than set by BT then that would be manipulation.
As would not playing at the bar where you are logged in, that is clearly an attempt to circumvent.

Both are grounds for disqualification the way I read that rule.

How do we get BT to check the computer at Nobles for the time it's set on. I thought BT automatically checked that but the manipulation could take place right as the game starts.

I know many people on this board have a phobia about Facebook, but if you have some complaints or suggestions, I urge you to go to NTN Buzztime, Inc. and voice your concerns there.

Thanks for reading this thread Tom but sorry I don't have a Faceyspaces account nor do I wish to have one. Too scary.

Mitch or someone, could you put something on there about the synch/computer clock being off at Nobles Bar Baltimore MD 21230, ID #31816. Thanks from all the players in MD, OH, NC, WV & VA.

There is a simple solution.

1. Bud or someone in the area go to the offending bar.
2. Get a box.
3. Manager Function...Select Games.
4. After Six starts, log off Six and swith to Buzztime Trivia.
5. Profit.

Tom, I think it's fantastic that you check this site. I also applaud Buzztime for keeping up with the times vis a vis social media. I think it's a tremendous mistake, however, to place all of BT's marbles on Facebook. Many, like me, have no Facbook account. I have on several occasions (as an official representative of a Buzztime account) sent actual paper letters to Buzztime and have never received a written response. The closest thing was a telephone call from a regional rep that did not answer my questions. This has always puzzled me, as the Customer Service folks for repair issues have always been top-notch. Why, I've wondered, does no none at Buzztime seem to care what an active, 40-Playmaker bar has to say? As dismayed as I have been by official response in the past, it infuriates me that the company seems to be saying, "If you have an issue, you have to bring it up on our Facebook account." How about bringing back a way to air concerns and get responses through YOUR actual website? How about being responsive to folks who actually take the time to mail an actual letter?

Sorry, this is off-topic. Understand that my frustration stems from a genuine love of your product, or at least what your product could be. And it is not meant by any means as a personal attack, you understand. It really is heartening to see you here.

I considered that Clavin but at Hardtimes we have Live Pub Trivia and SIX going on (at the same time) so it would be tough to make the 2hr round trip up to Baltimore and back. But maybe the team can make do without me? However, the problem would just reappear next week for the duration of the promotion.

We need a permanent fix like getting BT to fix the synch at all bars like they promised a few years back and had been fixed till the last few months.

Ohhh..excellent post AKBAR, couldn't agree more. Right on the money. BT you are missing out on at least 75% of the market by focusing only on FB.

I couldn't agree with my friend Akbar more. I have a Facebook account but I won't be using BT's Facebook page to communicate with the company. They have a perfectly good website. The leadership in Carlsbad has to get their heads out of their asses and give us an easy way to communicate with them on THEIR website.

And I also agree that this is not a knock, in any way, on Tom D, who clearly cares what the players think.

Like others have said, TomD is a great presence here and we should be grateful to have him. However, BT's seemingly company line of attempting to cater to the 18-?? Facebook loving BT playing demographic that does not exist is growing old and slowly eroding the company. More core BT players avoid Facebook like the plague than actually are members.

Lastly, those who don't believe various teams are out there cheating in various premium games thanks to the mobile PM gambit really need to get their heads out of the sand. Without even trying I've found a dozen or so that have done such in at least one premium game this year.

Teams have always, and will always, cheat in the Premium Games. This isn't something new, nor did it arise because of cell phones. You could take advantage of the lag before any of the Playmaker apps if you wanted to put forth the effort to do so. So, in short, mostly just echoing -BO- here -- if you ever think all the teams you are seeing up top are legit, you're deluded; if you have ever thought so, you were deluded then, too.

Has anybody actually gotten the final scores to agree with game data? I tried several bars and none of them matched. Most not even close. And yes I dropped the lowest average of the five.

I see from my friends' computer in Frisco that Danny K's won last night, congrats, boysngirls! I'm happy to have helped by not being there :p. Two wins out of five makes up somewhat for performing so badly the other three weeks.

Final scores havent been posted yet. But based on my calculations Runyons edged us at Adams Mill for the last spot in EST1 by less than 200 pts.

That's weird - in recent weeks the scores have updated long before now - and the page implies this is done automatically as the bars report out. Perhaps they delay that the last week to "manually" calculate the low-score drop? Would seem fairly simple to automate that into the reporting/update jobs, but dunno. That would explain the mismatch though if not updated yet. So are folks saying the totals now are the same exactly as they were before the game was played - reflecting the scores as of last week? I don't pay close enough attention mid-promo to know in our case.

That's right the scores shown now are 4 of 4. Last night isn't in there yet.

Thanks - going to be close then. A Spotes-less 86th St may just have fallen far enough for the local lot to snag 3rd despite a rough final round yesterday, but a surging Middleton may have overtaken us anyway. It depends on the low score drop and I'm not going to put in the effort to calculate that for all concerned so I'll just wait for the update.

As I understand it from my conversation with the Buzzies, this competition does not follow the pattern of dropping the lowest score from a period of four or five games. Rather, they are adding the bar average from each of the ten competition weeks together, dropping none. The top three bars from each region will be eligible for the finals in November, which will follow the same pattern, adding together the bar averages from all five weeks. Also eligible for the finals will be the bar in each region that scores the most total points (from all players, not just the top five) from all ten weeks added together.

Hmm... I was assuming June and Sept to be separate, but on, for once, reading the rules in detail you look to be spot on here except apparently the semi final score remains the top 4 (out of 10? Uhh?) location scores. Wonder why the delay this week then? And of course I just blew any chance of sneaking up undetected on an 86th St possibly unwary of such small fry as Evansville Beef's... Bugger.

But, pasted from BT website:

Quote:
Each Location will be assigned to one of ten regions in Buzztime’s sole discretion. “Player Score” is the average of the top 4 Smartest Bar trivia scores earned by a given player on a given Game Date. “Location Score” is the average of the top 5 Player scores for a Location on each Game Date. The Semi-Final Score for each Location is the total of its top 4 Location Scores during the Semi-Finals Promotion. In each region, the three Locations with the highest Semi-Final Scores will be deemed the Semi-Finals winning Locations.

There is 5 weeks in June, but only four in September, BT says it takes the top 4 scores.. Which one do they drop? Is it random? They have done that before.. Whomever you talked to at BT is a nitwit, nobody has any idea what is going on until the finals are posted.

Good luck figuring it all out...

Unless, of course it takes the top four out of nine games in June and September?

Apparently BT is also confused by the rules, as the promotion is listed in "Happenings" as completed!
One thing I've never been sure about is, who receives the prizes in these competitions; is it the players or the "location"? Does anyone remember a couple years ago when a guy posted on the old forum that his team had won some contest and the bar held the prize party and he wasn't invited? I guess it pays to be on good terms with the management, if they are indeed the prize recipients.

I'm curious because I was part of a regional winning team in the Hooters contest and two weeks later we still haven't heard a word from BT, and the managers claim no knowledge of prizes (we ended up being the second-smartest Hooters in America  ).

<edit> Hours after this post, the manager handed to us the gift cards with some fanfare. Two weeks wasn't such a long wait after all, though it was a month after the regional games ended. Congrats to Hooters of Tallahassee, THE Smartest Hooters in America.

I read it as best 4 scores out of 9. Dropping 5 scores.
BT right now has all 5 scores as the total score ranking.

Also the wild card will be whatever BWW has the most boxes running.

BT needs to drop the lowest of the 5 scores to be up to date.
