BT right now has all 5 scores as the total score ranking.

Also the wild card will be whatever BWW has the most boxes running.

BT needs to drop the lowest of the 5 scores to be up to date.

Want me to report this TOO, Bud??? LOL

Sure Mitch, might as well ask on facebook:
How is the "smartest bar" tourney is being calculated?
Is it best 4 of 9 scores? or All 9 scores count? or 2 separate semi-final seasons June & Sept with 3 winners each?
If it's best 4 of 9 when will the drop scores be factored in?

Thanks

Jesus Christ. It makes me wonder why we even keep trying to promote the damned game at Stewart's. Carlsbad can be truly frustrating.

It's also possilbe Buzztime simply neglected the fact there were 5 Wednesdays in June and never intended for Bars to be able to drop their lowest score.

I'd always read it as best 5 out of 9.

The way I read it that winners in June then the best ones in September were going to play against each of the other winners in all the brackets combined in November? Prizes will be giving out in all brackets both in June and September. Then the grand prize was giving out at the end. But I was wondering if it was the same winners in the brackets in both June and September how is that going to work out?

i checked the value of the prizes for the semi-final round. the total prizes for the semi-finals only works if there is only one set of prizes. the rules refer to the semi-final period which must be meant to be both june and september. so the qualifiers for the finals will be the teams with the best 4 out of 9 scores for the semi-final promotion (i.e. the scores for june and september) along with the wild card team from each region. Each region will be awarded a first place prize worth $500 as well as 2nd, 3rd, and wild card which are worth $250 each. That is a total of $1,250 for each of the ten (10) regions. That would be a total of $12,500, the amount of the prizes listed in the rules.

i should have done this earlier as i thought from the beginning that the rules were unclear.

That is how I have been reading it from the beginning but I'm sure BT has something else in mind. The question is how many drop games? Should be 4. But BT hasn't got around to factoring the 1 drop so far.

Looks like they have stumped us all again.. This recent email implies pretty strongly that June's top finishers get INTO the semi-finals in September..... Not what the rules seemed to say.

How Did Your Bar Rank?

Thanks for playing in week 5 of Buzztime's Smartest Bar competition!

You scored 55049 points to help Beef O Bradys Newburgh get a
Location Rank of 3 in the EST3 region!

Wow..yeah BT is really making this very confusing.
So what was the "top 4 location scores" all about? BT did best 5 of 5 with no drop.

Guess June & Sept are separate competitions?
Are there double the amount of prizes then?
Something is still seriously wrong with the rules.

Mitch, did BT ever answer you on that faceybooks thing?

At Hardtimes Germantown MD we'll be looking to get #1 in Sept as we ended 4th in EST2 with a 270k. I'll assume the current winners are excluded from winning the Sept. semi final round?

270xxx would have qualified in all of the other regions and been 1st in several. Damn Ohioians. :(

The way I am reading it now is that June was simply a qualifying round for September, and that only the top 3 bars then (presumably no longer in regions) will get prizes. But then again I've got this thing wrong before, so may have again.

Obviously if that's true then in that company Legend, myself and a couple of button pushers have next to no hope, but hey competitions are there for the fun of it in my POV rather than any real sense of achievement, until they find a way to get a true individual competition (not that I'd stand any more chance then really, but I'd care more and give it a damn good try, and give the winner far more deserved kudos than any hitherto).

I put on my manager pants and called the Buzzies again today for clarification. "This is a work in progress; Let me see what I can find out and get back to you." Good to see this level of planning for the nationwide competition. I'll post any reply I receive.

To make it more confusing, the prize values certainly indicate 4 prizes each (1 of 500 and 3 of 250) in ten regions. That would support a composite June PLUS September competition based on best 4 of 9. This is contradicted however at least by strong implication that semi-finalists have been congratulated by email, there is a "next round", and the event is completed. OR it could indicate a rehash of the ten regions in September but with only four teams, which is contradicted by common sense.

Did anybody outside listed bars get this email? Was it in any way differently worded?

I give up.....

I got the same email you did only it said congrats for helping your bar finish 4th in EST2. The EST2 scores listed were total 5 out of 5.

Someone at BT has dropped the ball yet again.

The semis are certainly not done, we continue in Sept and it's best 4 of 9 or it's all 9, OR Sept is the separate 2nd semi round with 4 more winners per region. If that's the case the prize structure is all wrong and will have to be doubled.

Then the finals are in Nov. with 80 bars, 40 from each semi round. 8 from each region. Winners from the 1st semi round can't win in the 2nd semi round.

That's the way it should be.

As much as I hate faceybook it seems that's the only way to get any answers these days. If those of you with a facebook account could inquire, please do.

Don't be surprised BUD that there's no BT reply to Mitch's June 30th post yet. I did like one guy's comment though..."I'm new here. Is it NTN's usual practice to simply ignore questions asked by players? There seems to be a lot of confusion about whether low scores will be deleted." - He's catching on fast.

From the dreaded Facebook:
Quote:
There are 4 winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd and Wild Card) from June in each region (10 regions) = 40 winners that go on to compete in November’s finals. In September the promotion runs again and we have another 4 winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd and Wild Card) from June in each region (10 regions) = 40 winners that go on to compete in November’s finals. So a total of 80 locations compete in November’s finals.
Still no word on whether qualifying bars in June are allowed to win more or improve on their standings in September. Also no word on whether this means the total prize pool for the Semi-Finals is $25,000, rather than the $12,500 advertised on the website. I didn't even bother going into the fact that the website says they're taking the top four scores, rather than five. Perhaps I'll try to tackle that in the morning...

So a bar that qualified in June cannot improve on its June scores in September. This seems a little self-defeating to me. If it's true, I doubt we'll get the player response in September that we got in June.

My money says that the Buzzies are making up the rules on the fly; what they're saying now is only vaguely related to what it says in the rules they posted before the competition.

Still no word on why the June Semi-Finalists seem to have been calculated with all five weeks' scores, rather than the top four, as the rules indicated.

I heard the winner of the promotion will be the bar smart enough to figure out the rules.

Seems too random, though; like saying that a lottery winner was smart enough to guess the right numbers...

Since the four scores/five scores controversy is more than theoretical to us at Broadway Station because we would have won our division if only the top four scores were counted, but as of now finished second because all five scores were counted, I have posted the question on the Buzztime Facebook page. They promised to look into it. We wouldn't have minded so much as long as we thought we'd get four more cracks at first place in September, but the latest interpretation is that the semi-finalists who earned their spots in June can't participate in September's next semis. Stay tuned, is what Buzztime replied.

The Buzzies are doing this the best way.

With 40 bars in, the other 9,400 bar will still be out in force in Sept. Those 40 bars may see a drop but that's better than losing all the others.

Now that most of the big dogs have qualified, they may even see an uptick in participation. Why play for maybe 2nd or 3rd in June, when you could focus your efforts on an easier field in September?

The top two scores in the MI/IN/KY region for the last week of June were phone hackers.
But I'm sure it will be much better in September... :?
Luckily, with the way cell phone technology keeps improving, I'll be obsolete by September and won't need to waste my time.

You're right; I was thinking from a narrow perspective. (Although I still think they're making it up as they go along...)
