Announcing the 2nd Annual Austin Gonzales Memorial Glory Daze Cup (which is a glorious football trophy, not a cup)! It is heretofore named after Austin Gonzales, Teasers stalwart in the chair at the corner of the bar, who alsas passed away last spring. As winners of the first Glory Daze Cup, Teasers will administer this year's cup.

Just like the Brainbuster Cup, it will run for five games (starting on September 24 and running until October 22 this year). Each participating team's final score will be calculated as the cumulative HOF score of their four best performances in those games (in other words, each team gets to drop a low score, which will also ameliorate the impact of any technical or other issues on a particular night). The highest score thus calculated wins, and that team will get the trophy for a year and be required to run the tournament next fall. In addition, as was the case last year, the 2nd- and 3rd-place teams will receive silver(-ish) and bronze(-ish) actual medals with the team’s name on the back.

RULES: Teams must use assembled brainpower in the location only. No computers and no references of any kind during gameplay, either paper or electronic (or telecommunication from outside the location). Using the Buzztime Playmaker app on electronic devices such as iPhones, iPads, or Droid phones is fine, as long as this is the only purpose for which the device is being used, and it is being used in and for the location of the team. Any team that pledges to abide by these rules is welcome to sign up.

As the tournament starts on September 24, the signup period will run from now until noon on that day. Please feel free to join here, or by contacting MERKIN by PM or email.

As this will be running concurrently with the Sandbag Tournament, Teasers welcomes all Sandbag teams to join--the more the merrier!

Teasers will defend.

Of course anything can happen after only one week, but congratulations to defending champion Teasers for winning week one and establishing a well nigh insurmountable 8 point lead over Danny K’s. Assuming they and the other close teams do not immediately surrender, we look to have an exciting tournament.

Thanks to Don Denton for keeping the official scores on his excellent website.

In week 2, congratulations to The Fellowship at The Basement who threw a 15,000 to take the lead in the Gonzales. Defending champions Teasers had a palindromic 14441 to place second for the week and overall, followed by Danny K’s in third.

Details are on Don Denton’s website.

Thanks, MERKIN! Glory Daze was one of only two games we played last night that was not plagued by technical glitches causing us to not be able to answer one or more questions. We're glad the gremlins left Glory Daze alone, at least.

After three weeks of the Austin Gonzales Memorial Glory Daze Tournament (hereinafter to be know as The Gonzales), the teams are bunched tightly, with (in the Drop One Standings) The Fellowship at The Basement leading Teasers by 923 points and Danny K's another 523 behnd. All teams are still in it, hoping Primetime is back in business after Milton. See Don Dnton's excellent website for tournament details.

Last night (Oct. 15) in The Gonzales, Prinetime did come back to take the win with a fine score of 14906 to move up to 4th palce with one week to go. Another strong night by The Fellowship/The Basement at 14173 leaves them with a dominating lead of 1005 point in the Drop One category over Teasers in second with Big Guys in third another 922 points back. Basement is in a strong position and Teasers needs a score over 19154 (with Basement below 14200-ish to overtake them. All the teams are bunched fairly close but are eliminated from first. Check out ntn.donrdenton.com for the details.

I do not wish to contradict the esteemed commissioner of the Gonzales, but I'm pretty sure Teaser's does not need an impossible score of 19,152--It can make do with a possible score.

Sorry to have missed posting here eaarlier:

The results of the Second Annual Austin Gonzales Memorial Glory Daze Tournament are now final.
Perennial powerhouse The Fellowship, playing at The Basement in Akron, OH put up their worst night of the five weeks, but with the 'drop one' format and their Oct. 1 perfect score, cruised to a 724 point total win and a 1141 point 'drop one' win over defending champion Teasers (Chicago, IL). Congratulations and the fine Gonzales trophy to The Fellowship.
Second place medal goes to Teasers and third place to Danny K's in Orange, CA, who moved up to third with their win and best performance last night.
Detailed results are available at ntn.donrdenton.com.
With a tear in our eyes and hope for a bright future, we furl the Gonzales flag until the next tournament in Helsinki or wherever.

Thank you so much, MERKIN, and congrats for running a great tournament! As we struggled on Tuesday we were pretty nervous--we were well aware that Teaser's was more than capable of seizing the tournament with one of its patented monster scores. Congrats to both you and Danny K's for your medals, and thanks to all of the participating teams for providing competition worthy of the trophy. We hope to see you all in next year's edition of the Gonzales!
