Unacceptable handles...

Here are two that "Buzztime" would not allow me and my friends to use:

"George"

"Gypsy"

I can understand the obvious "No No" handles not being acceptable, but what could possibly be wrong with "George" or "Gypsy"? Anyone ever run into other handles that you couldn't use, other than the obvious ones?

p.s. One time I tried to use handles that might have been a little risque, picking out words that "Buzztime" put on the screen in questions, answers, and explanations. Yep, they weren't allowed. I think NTN may have a double standard here. If a word is unacceptable for a handle, how can they use that word with what they put up on the screen?

For some reason "BTPLUG" is allowed. Don't ask.

"PSYCHO" is another one that is "unacceptable". Wonder if the censors have ever heard of Alfred Hitchcock?

WLFCCK & FATCCK is allowed as well. No need to explain those meanings.

George was probably banned due to the previous president.

I'm still surprised they allow anything that starts with an F and a space, such as "F CLDY"

MERKIN is one of the best trivia players I have ever met. (If you don't know what a merkin is, Google it.) If I remember his story correctly, he had established an account with NTN using the handle "MERKIN", then one day he couldn't log on, because it had become an unacceptable handle. He called NTN and argued that he should be allowed to continue using the handle. MERKIN won...!

p.s. How many children or their parents could be offended by a word they have never seen before, and have no idea what it means? :?

My cousin's last named is Zahn, so he tried both ZANADU and XANADU, but both were rejected. He ended up using ZAHNDU. The only thing we could figure was the embedded NAD in the name.

George Washington, maybe. "ORG" is one of the letter combinations banned from the beginning. I can remember the late George Morgan (NAGROM) complaining about 1990 that he could not get in either of his names (so he used one backwards). Three-letter combinations seemed to be commonly filtered then; ANA may have been one of them, which might explain the "Xanadu" problem.
