Does anyone have a clue why "William Jennings Bryan" was used as an incorrect answer choice at least 3 times last night.

Because they ran out of famous Canadian politicians to use as distractors?

An attempt at historical numerical accuracy...?

Was Eugene Debs the incorrect answer five times?

Can you really have a baseball movies game without one Field Of Dreams question? :?

There seemed to be a decent balance of eras early on...but in the end, the usual Topix complaint applied: too many 2000s questions.

not just no field of dreams, but no bull durham, the natural, eightmen out, or pride of the yankees. at least one of these could have replaced the lesser movies they used from the 2000s.

I thought the game was pretty well written for the most part. I do have to agree that some of the classics got left out, but it wouldn't be challenging if we answered 15 questions everybody knows the answer to. I do have to wonder how Ralph Macchio question about "Beer League" a movie about SOFTBALL, got included in a game about Baseball?

We finished 2nd as a bar, but everyone looked at me funny when I pre-called Ed Asner. I was also waiting for "The Kid from Left Field," that would have rocked.

If anyone went out and played the Art History Topix tonight, please let me know what the questions were if you remember. Intended to go play, but my 1.5 hour 11 mile right home inspired me to forgo trivia and forget all about wanting to play that damned game. :(

While my place isn't reporting out I did in fact play. A BIT disappointing but not the worst possible.

Some of the paintings/questions (from fuzzy memory after 2+ hours drinking/playing)

Wheatfields with........
What does Boy Blue have in his hand
Whaamm!! shows two.....
The Nightwatch shows a group of..... (a bit tricky here as the actual faces are those of Dutch burghermeisters who paid to appear in a painting supposedly depicting guards and both "militia" and "noblemen" were answers)
The sign above Hopper's "Nightowls" says......
"Self Portrait with Goat" by.......
Goya painted this about French invasion of Spain...
"The Trooper" was painted by.....
Napoleon had this painting above his bed in the Tuileries

That's all I can remember....

Who is holding the flag in "Washington Crossing the Delaware?"
Something about a Frederic Remington painting...

The Remington painting Q is on my list (way to give him a clue ;) )

Yes one was "who is depicted holding the flag in Washington crossing the Delaware

And two skully ones that I remember now and that I sucked on badly:

Still life with Steer's Skull is by......
The French Ambassadors by this painter features a scary skull.......

The still live with steer's skull and Wham! questions are repeats from the Contemporary Art/Modern Art game last year

perhaps they worded them slightly differently

Still live with steer skull is from the game a while back, and also has appeared in a countdown game, IIRC.

Doesn't appear to have been too horribly hard, but, then again, I have the benefit of being sober right now. Topix games are always harder with alcohol. :D

Sorry; I plead the drink.

Actually, not being an art guy particularly, I thought it was a relatively challenging game. Top score was only 13,4XX and the scores ranged down pretty quickly thereafter. We managed a 5th place bar score only because my roommate, the art teacher, came in for the game. Unfortunately, she came in early and had a couple of 9% beers pretty quickly, apparently slowing down her RAM significantly. There were at least four question we bled 300-500 on becuase she knew the answer just a little too late.

I plan to try the Canadian Prime Minister game on Thursday.

Promises to be a most brutal game. After all, most Canadians can't even name 15 Prime Ministers, much less know anything them. Imagine how those south of the border (or in Detroit's case, north of the border) will fare

May sent all-time low bar averages for Topix.

Looks like this week's Thursday Topix bar averages were much lower. Image

Personally I was hammered (by the quiz that is) and got a fairly rare sub 10K Topix for those I bother to play (I don't bother if I have no interest at all in the topic and just play BT instead). Had no clue on either skull one, no clue on Delaware, no clue on the goat, no clue on a couple of others at least. And heck even one of my 1000s (hopper) was an utter guess. Maybe I should not be complaining that we haven't reported out since Monday night.

Sounds about like last time. IIRC, I managed a top 10 in the previous one with a mid 13,000, and should have gotten gold, as I told everyone one of the answers and then pressed the wrong button. :(

The last time they had a game like that it was 12 questions that students of art history would know, and 3 that were just out there. I was just fortunate that 2 of the 'out there' ones were in some art collection books I had at home so I had 'em.

Well, as expected, I had more than a lil bit of a hard time with this Thursday's Hard Liquor Topix. That said, I also expected far, far more perfect individual games and site averages.

Congratulations to Brandy, with the only perfect scores outside some place back east...

<--F_BEAR, was it?

Thanks liljol, we're playing in Austin this weekend. I wasn't sure on 2 of them but Clavin/Minime was able to help on them.
