Update: the error screen I got was because the BT computer needed to be reset. They reset it and I could use the app. I used the tablet as they did not have the a TV with it on and I didn't ask.

Has anyone done the survey at the end of a round and given feedback?

Anyplace they list system requirements? What's the oldest version of Android or IOS the app supports? I have a couple older tablets I'd rather use instead of junking up my phone.

I believe IOS 8 is as far back as it will support. Not sure about Android.

Hey everyone. Wondering if you have any thoughts on the beta version of the app? A couple of days ago we fixed an error that was providing incorrect coordinates and making it impossible for some players to find their location and play. Coming soon we will have something that makes questions and/or answers visible so there's less looking up and down at the TVs. You can also expect to get more games to play on the app. Some of the games like Spotlight and Six, to name a couple, have different mechanics requiring more dev time. Thanks!

First, thanks so much for checking in here—I truly appreciate your making the effort to contact some of your most passionate players.

I have enjoyed using the app, and have noticed no problems so far. Getting the questions on screen would be nice, especially now that the radius has been tightened.

My main issue has been the inability to play Showdown on it, but I’m hoping that will be in the next update. I take it that the devs can’t salvage any code for the premium games from the previous app that worked for these games?

I had to use the app at Ray J's American Grill because they only have six tablets that work and an unpleasant couple took four of them before our group of five arrived. I had to look over the shoulder of the player who had a tablet and sometimes her hand was in the way of the question. The app seemed to count down faster than the tablet. I could get a thousand points but if you paused for even an instant you seemed to lose a lot of points. It was my first time with the app so maybe next time I will be able to approach ANON's proficiency with the app.

Glad to hear the feedback. The dev team is hard at work bringing games like Showdown, Spotlight and more to the app; they just require a bit more time because of their length and mechanics.

How about getting the regular system to air Six right now ?
Some kind of major problem.

Thanks for the update on last Thur. We do appreciate the presence on here.

The app does seem to be working fine as more locations were recently mapped better, used to be off on 30-40%, now all in MD, N. VA, DC and DE look good.

So how long till the questions roll out? Not saying it’s a good idea but we know it’s coming.

Questions & Answers are now available via app update on all Android devices. It's currently in review with Apple but should be available on iOS devices today or tomorrow depending. Should be noted that clues aren't yet available, but we're getting there!

As for the locations, there are still some stragglers where the coordinates need to be updated. Long story short, if you are at a location that doesn't allow you to select that location to play, please let us know ASAP. This will be extremely helpful to us in getting the remaining locations corrected.

Lastly, please share your feedback in our survey embedded within the app.

No questions or answers are coming up on android app for lunchtime. Do we have to download the new app again?

So the answer is yes you do need to update the BT app to get the new “question app”.
You might want to wait on that.

The first reports are there is trouble. Lots of no internet connection error messages. Rebooting phone, rebooting BT main computer, not responding, app works for a bit then goes back to no internet connection. If you leave the app to answer a text and go back to BT app it’s locked up or says no internet connection. Have to reboot the phn, check permissions etc etc to get it to work for a short while.

This is at a BWW where the WiFi is ok but not great. I think that is the way 80 to 90% of the locations are these days. So for some reason the new question app is much more sensitive about the internet connection than the “new app without questions” which worked fine.
The phn is a 5 month old Galaxy JV7 version 9.

Right now the “question app” is not usable on android through Bww WiFi. Hope that helps and please don’t assume all locations have great internet. They don’t and likely can’t easily fix that.

So, players will again be frustrated and not come back as has been going on the last 3 or 4 years since the cheapo tablets came out. They already are frustrated that the tablets die within an hour. The phn app was a good idea to help with that, if it works.

This is just the beta version but needs to be adjusted to work on less than perfect internet.

Hmmmm. Internet connection to the router at this location is good but there is no way to check the wifi. IF you happen to go back it would be extremely helpful to run a speed test from your phone and share the results. http://speedtest.net/ there's a share button in there. If not, no worries and we can try digging into it.

Oh sorry, that wasn’t at my home BWW. It was Bww Salisbury MD.
But thank you for checking out Gaithersburg. The WiFi is better at Gaithersburg, where I haven’t checked out the question app yet, I’m still on the Eastern Shore.

I just tried the Q&A app out. Very nice. I had no issues with connectivity, etc...and I did notice where you could choose the option to block incoming calls/texts during questions so that was nice as well.

Clues and leader board/rankings would be nice to see once available for playing in venues that don't have it on the TV and/or if it's true that one possibility is that BWs are going to keep trivia but do away with the tablets then both of those would be a necessity IMO, as would functionality for other games that aren't available yet.

I'm sure, as with everything, all is still a work in progress but pleasantly surprised for a first run.

Now the Apple version is out. It worked fine on data with the exception of no clues and no bar and individual ranking boards. As Brutus said those 2 have to be included or it’s probably a worthless app with the lack of tvs in many places. They may have one or two TVs on BT but sometimes no seats anywhere close.

However.....just like on android it would not work through the bar WiFi. This was at 3 different bars yesterday. Mad Fish, Pizza Tugo and Coins all in Ocean City MD. You could log in and enter the game but within seconds the screen would say no internet connection or no games available. No problem surfing the net and watching a video on the bar WiFi.

So that needs to be worked out somehow. Not many people will want to burn up data for 3 or 4 hours. WiFi has to work with the app.

Also how long till the premium games can be played?

I tried the new app on the iPhone on the carrier's network. It worked just fine and the questions seemed to appear just a short time before the tablets.

If you've ever noticed, the questions and answers on the monitor appear before they do on the tablet by close to a full second. This seems to be true for most games but in some specialty games they might be synched. If this is the case I'd bet that the app now matches the monitor.

When I made the first review of the tablets (in 2013) one bug report was of that significant delay between the monitor and the tablet. In that time it has not been fixed nor any suggestions for improving player experience on the tablets addressed which has been more than irritating. And if the app indeed matches the monitor, if they don't bring the tablet up to speed after all these years......

Yes, Bo you are correct. The app seemed to be just a tad faster than the monitor in a few instances as well. Maybe it was because I wasn't using their wi-fi. Who knows?

Tried the updated app (iphone) on Tuesday. (At Cameron's in Half Moon Bay, CA)

Worked fine for several questions, but then dropped the signal mid-game.

I took Mom to the doctor's office today, which happens to be very near a BWW, so I tried the app in the waiting room. I notice there is no countdown or clues, but the questions and answer choices work fine.

Mom came out of the doc office before I got a chance to finish a game...

My only complaint about the new app is the one that has been mentioned...you can't play premium games yet. Other than that, and tying up my phone so I can't simultaneously chat with my non-trivia drinking buddies who are elsewhere, I like it.

The previous problems with playing over bar wifi seems to be fixed on the new "question app."

Tried the new app at a few different bars some tablet some classic box all worked fine using the bar wifi and the app.

So now that's all good, just down to adding all 3 rankings boards to the app. (local current game, national players, national bars)

Also the hour long games but we know they are working on that and the clues.

Do the after game survey as often as you can and mention adding the above.

Not that I've downloaded Buzztime to my phone. I'll use their hardware and not drain my battery and my bandwidth and increase my staring at and addiction to my device. YMMV.

We look at all of the feedback coming in via the survey. That's the only data we're interested in. If it helps, any player on the app who takes the survey has to already be logged in, so there isn't any other data we can get. So please, keep the comments coming!
