New Scaratings

While I certainly understand the business case to close the forums (I'm surprised they lasted that long), I will miss certain aspects.

That said, I was hardly ever posting anymore, but I would scan posts.

I'm not a Twitterer or (as my Dad says) on Spacebook, so maybe all the good stuff is there, but it seemd the forums where just less interesting than they used to be.

The old forum had slowed down before the announcement. For various reasons many of the best/most interesting people cut back or stopped (or were stopped from) posting .

The quality of the posting on the forums kept me away for months. Last spring when the McCarthy Cup was in full swing and BT introduced New Six there was some worthwhile stuff to read on the forums. When I checked in last autumn I discovered the "why hasn't sports been the final topic" thread, in which a couple of players would repeat their same (meaningless) complaint after every session of Wednesday Six. The pair of malcontents managed to suck all of the oxygen out of the Six Forum. Too bad. The buzzies had some pretty remarkable categories in the Matching Round, (along with a number of complete stinkers.) But any attempt to discuss the game was drowned in a tsunami of posts about how BT had discriminated against them by once again failing to stick The Games category in the final position of the Marathon Round.

And they said they didn't care about their scores. Not that that makes any sense in conjunction with months of griping. But whatev.

Beating a dead horse is one thing. Most discussions have an initial constituency. This one had two devotees. Very, very persistent devotees.

Now, I'm not trying to extrapolate this singular issue into a general critique of the BT forums. But it was one of the reasons I stayed away for awhile.

There's not much on the Buzztime Facebook, they ask random trivia questions every now and then. Sometimes there's an announcement about something (ie Twihard trivia) but that's it.
Maybe they'll give it more time and effort once the forums die, though.

There was a lot on Buzztime that I didn't have any interest in and pretty much skipped over, but I am sad to see it go.

Hopefully most of the good guys and gals will migrate here.

The forum was my vicarious connection to the Bar Buzztime game, since both local sites are now gone, i am siteless in the Comox Valley.

Make that 60.

I'll bet you will have 300 by the end of the week.

The BT forums served a useful purpose for about 4 years, but seemed to outlive it's productive function.

It served as a great gathering spot to become familiar with some outstanding players and personalities that you may never have met or even become friends with.

I enjoyed it while it lasted and am hopeful the vast majority will migrate here so that it can continue in a more open environment. Thanks for doing this Scar, Dante and Tim.

I also think the old forums were getting non interesting the last few months. I used to look forward to the posts about the previous nights games but the same negative comments about how buzztime has made things worse with the changes kept me skimming for posts I wanted to view. It was great for Dante, Scar and anyone else that helped in getting this forum up. I have conversed with many of you before and view all of you as compadres and competitors. I have been viewing the facebook and twitter things buzztime puts out and I can only say that they are nothing of what the forums were. I highly doubt things there will get into a major forum setup. About the only thing that buzztime has on facebook that I think is good is an area with pictures.

As much as the BT forums could be frustrating, we should be fair to them and acknowledge that administering and moderating forums is an often thankless job. I've done a lot of soul-draining things in my life, but extensive time put in managing a forum was one of the worst. I consider them to be a form of spiritual mono.

The people there put in a lot of hard work.

But forums always go the way we saw there. Is with any group, it only takes a few negative people to spoil the whole thing. I unfortunately just got to the point there that every time I'd log on I'd not want to log on for a few days; I hate putting people on ignore (I still think even the worst person MIGHT have something of value to say), but it got to the point I wanted to ignore a good deal of the board :/

It's the double-edged sort of having a devoted fanbase, I guess. They make you part of their life, but they'll turn on you when you don't do what they want. I wish the Buzzies the best in their escape from that madness.

And back to sleep I attempt to go.

I like how I get mentioned even though I don't do anything.

I agree with most of these posts in this topic. Recently, I would scan the new posts or look for certain posters that make decent comments. At that point, I would read those posts only.

I guess I disagree with most everything posted here so far. I think the forums were somewhat useful early on when many people had not previously had an opportunity to discuss or explore numerous topics but I really think it became a joke once BT took a much more active role and creatd a much more obvious presence for themselves. Don't get me wrong, I have no hard feelings towards any of the BT staff but when they appeared in mass it was not long before they were clearly playing favorites and turning a blind-eye to any number of jackoff's idiocy repeatedly.

On a related note - I saw a little while back a brief discussion where my name was brought up and some individuals claimed that I had been given ample warning before the "final" ban on my account. That is simply untrue. Prior to that, I stated often and directly that, in my opinion, Bo had acted in an unethical fashion and had shown a pattern of doing so. That was/is my opinion - I have every and all legal basis to hold it and to state it. My understanding of the events that led to the ban is that some dipshit in Texas sent BT a message claiming that in her self-perceived expert opinion as a parttime editor, BT was at risk of a libel charge for allowing me to state my opinion. This of course is laughably absurd but it seems that BT decided to delete my account without warning or notification as a result. To be honest I could give a rat's-ass as the forums had become nothing but a small group of egomaniacal ass-kissers trying to show how superior they were by bashing any newbie who stuck their head up or dismissing any and all arguments they didn't like with support from a seemingly endless parade of BT employees.

Seriously, the forum went along reasonably well prior to the period when all those green accounts started popping up every day. Later, I thought their attempt to integrate players as moderators might help but too little too late I suspect.

I also was not a fan of the newbie bashing. Most of it unchecked by Buzztime. Why they allowed that
and punished others for petty offenses is beyond me. But it is all water under the bridge now.

Forum moderation via peer review strikes me as untenable.
It puts those players in extraordinarily awkward positions of power without actually giving them any.
Much like the best forms of government, I suspect forum moderation is best done by as few people as possible with absolute power, a modicum of sense, and little personal interest.
Hmmm...responding to a FOOBAR post. I feel like I'm in an alternate universe. A universe full of gruff, but lovable sauciness...

My desire is for moderation to be unrequired.

On the old Scaratings, mostly things were very congenial.

I think I deleted one post ever (besides a few spamming tupperware offers) and sent a detailed explanation to the member. I hope we can all disagree on various issues while respecting that there may be validity to opposing views.

Without "the official buzztime sponsoring presence" there should not be a need to kill the messenger, so hopefully the tone will be better that the BT forum, where people had "an official voice to complain to".

One thing I would hope for would be that any buzzies who post here would get absolute respect, and the benefit of the doubt. There were buzzies on the old site, and they were treated respectfully and provided a perspective that improved the overall site. They were and will be here voluntarily, and personal attacks should be frowned up.

I'd hate to have to defend the actions of my company on a BB, and I'm damn proud of it. But, we make mistakes and errors like any company, but the folks here are all good ones.

Based on the old site experience, I am confident that these issues will be minor, if any.

I was pretty much a newbie to NTN, as well as using a forum, when I joined. Hell, I didn't even know that there were teams for the specialty games and that people shared answers. I surprised myself by starting my own thread about something I didn't understand...a question that would now bring down a load of crap on my head for: 1) not knowing the answer 2) not searching through threads [which I really didn't know how to do] 3) being a newbie in general.

I learned TONS of NTN/BT info from the forums in the early days, thanks mainly to the folks that have moved over to this forum. People were mostly polite and helpful, especially to a tchno-spaz such as myself.

Just one parasite's opinion.

Excuse me, I cannot find the previous thread about how damn funny KHAOS's avatar is.
