Post subject:  offering prizes for unequal competition

There is no need to rehash the problems of repeat games in the West and their effect on national competition during regular premium games, but with the Beef's Battle coming up again next week, BT is staying completely silent about whether this will be a competition between all time zones or not. This leads me to strongly suspect that of course it will be. There is no way with $500 worth of prizes available nobody will consider it worthwhile cheating even for such a modest prize. There really isn't much point competing against people who can cheat undetectably at will. I don't believe that they have offered any prizes since this strange stupid split has been in place but I would've hoped that the display of how easy it is to cheat on the first day would have shown them that it is absolutely idiotic to do so.

Does anybody have any idea how else I can contact them with the hopes of at least an answer and explanation? I should know better than to ask by now but hope springs eternal.

If you look at rule 2 it appears that the games will run at 8-9 EST regardless of location. And 33 of the 36 locations are in the Eastern zone of the split, with only 3 in the West (all in Arizona). Since Arizona doesn't observe daylight savings time, this seems to imply that they will be getting the game at 6 p.m.

It'll be easy enough to smell the rat if the AZ teams start coming out on top.

And the rules include,

"Site leagues may change."

Sounds clear to me. Compete. Have fun!

Actually I see only one Arizona location on the list.

I will go out on a limb here and predict that the Surprise, Arizona location will be excluded from the contest, by way of the fact that the game played there is "Six (West)" and that Buzztime's computers will only scrape "Six (East)", which is technically a different game code. Same as when you currently scrape Six (East) on the HOF for Arizona locations, you get no results, Surprise Arizona will turn up as 0 in the automated standings for this tournament, even if they play Six (West).

Anyone have an indication whether this location in Arizona is likely to notice or care?

I think someone should fax the answers to the restaurant for fun and explain that they have to have 5 registered handles to win and all the gadgets..

I only see one Beef in AZ, there are 2 others in AR.

No one will care or even know about the tourney at this brand new Beef O in AZ. It appears to have just opened with a total of 3 terrible games played.... yesterday.

Don't worry about them...........unless ROUGE shows up.

I've brought this up with the Beef's Battle and Traveling Trophy games and we're discussing what should be done. I've suggested that we either make them a national game for these competitions (like we are with Smartest Bar), or that we write seperate content for the West (in the case of Traveling Trophy). The marketing materials have been set in stone for quite some time for Beef's Battle, so it's unlikely that we'll be able to change that game time, but I'm still waiting to hear back. I'll keep you all posted... I should hear back early this week.

Its best for SIX, Spotlight, Showdown, Playback to be back as national games so we will not have the problems we are having since the split. Well the same thing goes with the Hooters smartest bar this month....All franchised games should and ALWAYS be nationwide.

As you well know, National Premium games is the only way I will ever play again. Looks like I will be waiting awhile; Smartest Bar, The Season, and Traveling Trophy, didn't BT used to have all National Premium Games? It has been so long, I can't remember. I am a little hesitant to include Traveling Trophy since it won't be nationwide anyway (not a single bar in our state has ever been included).

Now you admit it could be a problem and you would have to write new games for the ENCORE Feed? But, then it won't be a level playing field, how can you have a competition when the places receive different games? I still can't believe you guys ruined your network.

Just to be clear, are you saying that the content will be different between the East and West feeds for Showdown, or just that you have suggested this. If it is different content, will it just be for the duration of the Traveling Trophy?

A modest proposal: air the one hour premium games at 9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific.

Oh wait...

We would only do this for things like Traveling Trophy, where you are only competing against people in your time zone... so it is still a level playing field.

I've also been pushing to have a league for TT in Nevada - I will continue to push for that.

I have suggested it. I have not yet heard back on how it will be run. It would likely only be for Traveling Trophy as this is a resource issue for us.

KK, please also check re: the Hooters competition, because we're trying to figure out whether it makes any sense to play in it. Starting out we'd only be up against East zone teams, but if we were lucky enough to advance, we'd eventually be playing against the West zone competitors, who might or might not be cheating, so it doesn't seem like a good investment of our time.

Of course this assumes that the location Buzztime invited us to play at--the Hooters on Northwest Freeway in Houston, which is the only Hooters near us--even puts the game on. Last time when we tried to participate, mid-SIX the location cut the feed and put on "Are You Smarter Than a Hooters's Girl?" We left in disgust, as did another player visiting from Oklahoma. I complained to the location management, the Houston Hooters rep, the national Hooters management, and Buzztime; the only one who responded was the national Hooters, who apologized and said I'd be hearing from the rep, but this never happened. So I have no idea whether or not this particular Hooters now understands it should support the national tournament.
