The Buffalo Wild Wings location at 920 S. Gilbert Road is due for a major remodel.
The restaurant, now 10 years old, closes Saturday, Feb. 15, and reopens Saturday, March 1, with a stadium-look featuring walls clad in a brick covering to give the illusion of being inside a warehouse, a white ceiling, new furniture, decals and sports memorabilia.
“Our goal is to provide the ultimate social experience for sports fans, and the new look will definitely provide the right atmosphere,” said owner Gayle Schmidt, who is spending more than $500,000 on the new look.
Schmidt, whose business won the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce awards’ 2010 Family Business of the Year and earned her the chamber’s 2010 Business Woman of the Year, said the new look is family-friendly as well.
“The new look is clean, this has the dark ceilings which gives you the feeling of a bar, where now it’s an all-white ceiling. It’s very family-friendly,” she said, adding “I love it; it just exudes fun.”
Crayons and coloring books will be passe, too, and kids will be given an iPad with Buzztime Playmaker during their visits to the restaurant.
“There are tons of games for the kids in the iPads. It eliminates the games, the play ports, eliminates the trivia, it regulates the jukebox, so the jukebox is going,” Schmidt said.
New technology will enable patrons to change to any game on the television screens or choose the music from the table.
In the future, the plan is to enable patrons to use the iPads to order from and pay at the table, even though a server still will bring the food. The redesign will mean that large-screen televisions will reduce from 14 to four, but those remaining will be two screens each of 80 inches and 70 inches.
More minor modifications include redesigned restrooms.
The restaurant just completed its 10th anniversary and the remodel is part of her contractual obligations, Schmidt said.
While the location is closed for the remodel, Schmidt is hoping patrons will use her other Gilbert location of Buffalo Wild Wings at 1475 W. Elliot Road.
Buffalo Wild Wings has more than a thousand restaurants across the United States and Canada, as well as a few in Mexico, and plans to expand globally.
