It says you can play on the “new Buzztime Entertainment app for Apple and Android” yet the playmaker app for Apple is still the old one. I guess we’ll see if a new one ever comes out. |

I did contact Buzztime. I was informed that the game will replace Brainbuster in December. I am not sure if that's a good idea as Brainbuster is one of the most popular games. |

$1000 will quickly make these countdowns more popular. |

While I'd rather play Brainbuster, I do occasionally run a Countdown, and figured I'd add my address to my P+ profile for MICE. The form has two address lines and a city/state/zip line. I dutifully put in my apartment number, below that my street address, and then West Saint Paul for city. I got an error message, that the city name need be all characters. Puzzled, I put my entire street address on the first address line, my city on the second address line, and left empty the box for city. This time, when I clicked on Save, I got a message that my profile had been successfully updated. What I couldn't do is change my home site. That screen appears to be dead. If I do collect a perfecto on Tuesday, I'll expect a cheque for up to $20, after splitting with the fifty-odd other players who ran the quiz. |

BUD wrote: Merkin wrote: How will they police cheating? The same way HQ trivia does. ![]() It’s going to be difficult for them to come up with unGoogleable questions with that much time to answer them. I’m hoping Buzztime writes special questions that make it a little bit harder to cheat, but that would be a difficult feat. (Though it is possible: Ken Jennings’s Q7 every week is made to be Google-resistant.) Most of the apps do try to make a few differentiating questions harder to Google and you have much less time to answer. The people who win money on the apps have to have some knowledge going into it. I have over 50 friends who play Confetti with me every night and they’re all TCONA-types who are really good at trivia. And we don’t win every day. (Rarely do I have zero friends who win, but it’s happened.) We’ll see. GYPSY |

Gypsy got what I was suggesting. HQ does basically nothing to combat google cheating other than make the last 2 or 3 questions very tough and less time to answer. But to get a 1000 in BT you must be quick so BT will actually be better. Let's see if BT has some new tough questions for these games not just the usual CD qs from the data base. As for lag cheating, let's hope all locations are in sync. |

In the rules: "if it is discovered that a Contestant has registered, attempted to register or otherwise entered the Contest more than once using multiple PlayersPlus® accounts, all of the Contestant's entries will be declared null and void and any Prize (as defined below) a Contestant might have been entitled to receive will not be awarded. " BT has always had this in various game rules but still watch the multi boxing for these $1000 games, it could cut you out of a prize if BT actually checks all the registered player names for duplicates. Also you will need a PayPal account to claim a prize and your P+ account email will be the contact used. |

My guess would be that Buzztime will not do any checking, that no one here on this board would tell, and that some of the money will go to some of our known friends who multibox. Especially the Tuesday money when most players are specifically on multiboxing teams to play the Tuesday games. |

I couldn't get up to Urbana to play the game last night. (Gaithersburg is still dead) From the scores it must have been quite tough or at least a few were? Only 1108 players, seems low. Merkin is showing as 2nd with a 12354. So who won and what was the score? |

In real time, I saw Blzbub 1st with 12687 and Merkin 2nd with 12354. Buzztime has a results page on the site with 3 higher scores led by a Dave in Alabama at 14866 with Blzbub and Merkin at 4th and 5th. I was 101st. The questions were enjoyably all over the place. |

It was a Brainbuster quality game. All signage was Countdown. I showed second to Beelzebub real time (due to misreading a question-d'oh). |

I have changed the last line in the first post of this thread, to now be a link to the winners page. It seemed weird that the top three scores on that list would all be from bars that did not report in real time and that no one saw at their locations. Sure enough, in the case of the listed winner, Dave in Alabama, he played an alternate Countdown by way of his location (a blue box bar) de-selecting that 8:00 premium game (and Playback as well but keeping Speed Freaks and AIA), and showing as 1st of 11 on his own page. Then this got blended on the winners page into the other Countdown that we all played. I didn't check the 2nd and 3rd players but someone else can. It seems to me that Blzbub showing 4th on that page is the legitimate winner. But is Buzztime savvy enough to see this? |

How is a game that only a few have the ability to win suppose to bring out the masses? |

Jim wrote: How is a game that only a few have the ability to win suppose to bring out the masses? Interesting question, Jim. Placing the money on a Countdown, rather than a Brainbuster format, might appeal to more players. The arcane Brainbuster format, and the rarified questions, have drawn only 11,846 Brainbuster registered accounts in the last six months. Countdown has drawn in 135,963 accounts. But I support your skepticism. Buzztime chose their most popular game for this $1000 promotion, but neglected to promote less popular games which are perhaps more worthy of remark, if you're trying to draw your friends to join in. The statistical variance, for anyone who is counting, is that most Countdown players show up in the afternoon, and don't play that late into the evening. I can see where Buzztime is coming from: the company is attempting to draw action through a common denominator, the quantity of Countdown players. But the company seems not to have filtered those numbers, in regard to when the most avid Countdown players are actually playing. |
