So, seeing a John Wayne question in Brainbuster was a surprise. So surprising that I didn't know the answer. Or was the answer wrong??? The question was about the movie "The Sons of Katie Elder". Something about what were the sons doing. According to B/T the correct choice was: Avenging the death of their mother??? I've seen the movie a few times, and their mother had died a natural death. So what was there to avenge??? Seems to me that they were trying to avenge the murder of their father. Maybe I misread the choices??? Oh well. ------------------ Found this on Google: What is the movie The Sons of Katie Elder about? Four ne'er-do-well sons reunite in their Texas hometown to attend their mother's funeral. Led by older brothers John (John Wayne), a gunfighter, and Tom (Dean Martin), a gambler, the four soon learn that their father gambled away the family ranch, which was the cause of his murder. i saw the movie many times but not for probably twenty years. as i recall it the youngest son was still living at home and related to the three older brothers that the claim that the father lost the ranch gambling was not true and that the bad guys made up that story and killed their father. the youngest son indicates that this hastened the mother's death as she was forced off her ranch. i think the three older sons did not have that high an opinion of the father would have believed that he could have gambled away the ranch and they took some convincing by the youngest son to come around. i think the attractive woman in the movie added some corroboration to the youngest sons story and the older ones were convinced, and then a john wayne western commences from there. |
