Just attended Buzztime video meeting.

Showdown/Spotlight "pretty sure" but "not 100%" sure will be available by Christmas.

Old sites will begin to have computers replaced with Android Chromebook devices (looks like an old-fashioned router).

More slowly, leasing of tablets (Samsung A7 Lite) will begin for sites that want them. Cost will be an additional $399 a month for 10 tablets plus a $100 deposit.

$149 a month promo is "doing well," current site count is "close to 1,000."

That is encouraging about Showdown and Spotlight being available on the app soon. Anything to keep players playing...
It does seem like they've increased the number of sites recently with more being added every month. Increasing sites is only part of the battle though, BT needs a way to keep new players engaged. If a new site doesn't keep BT on a tv being displayed or incentivize new players in some way, there won't be a lot of activity or reason to keep BT in the long term.
The team play, competition, and working up those baby players plus levels is what got me hooked years ago, and those colored +'s didn't cost them a thing.

That is interesting that there is now an option to the App only system. A chromebook device that will work with the current old tablets? Is that how it will work? Or will bars need to lease the new A7 tablets? I guess that leaves the blue boxes out of luck and soon gone?

The old boxes/tablets are history. It's either lease the A7 Lites or have people bring their own. However, phase out/phase in may take a while, seemed like this was going to be tested with a limited market first.

Now that I think of it, they did imply the old stuff would work with this new stuff, but that seemed to be a temporary expedient until they got the new leasing opened to all.

Incidentally, Buzztime now has 800K trivia questions in its database.
