Is there anyone on Scaratings that plays here? Just found out I'll be within walking distance of it next week.

TOLLE: That's a great trivia bar with a lot of history to it and some very strong players. All the action, however, is in the daytime. Not too much play in the evenings. Hope you have your afternoons free while you're in the area. If you have a car you oughta head down to New Smyrna and play with the folks at Merks and Peanuts.

OR, hell, drive over to Tampa again...

Drive over to Tampa. If the players don't play premium or specialty games, they aren't any good.

Hell Yeah!!! Top bars are always and forever will be well rounded, Daytime and Prime Time. Also they should also not be cheaters and/or borgers (Indigo Joe's of Wildwood, MO is both)

Might work out well as I'll probably have more time available in the afternoon compared to the evenings. I'll try to make it down to Peanuts and/or Merks, just don't know if I'll be able to or not.

Wish I could make it over to Tampa again, Bob... just doesn't look like I'll be able to this time.

I used to play quite regularly at Houligans. It was a great site then, with quite a few evening players, especially on Tuesday for Showdown.

Last time I was down there, two new Houligan's had opened, one out closer to the highway in Ormond Beach, the other a bit north in Palm Coast.

If you stop in, checkout the Wally Wings...

I did end up going to Houligans, but didn't get to meet many of their regular players. Very nice place... clean, friendly staff, Wally Wings are great!

Houligans in OBeach was, at one time, one of the very best places to play. My father lived in Palm Coast, and the last time I visited him before he died the Houligans in Palm Coast was open, so I played there, but it wasn't the same. I do remember that trivia had waned a bit the last two or three times I played in their OBeach site. There was a legendary player there who I didn't really know, but my impression is that the "spirit" there faded after he died. I think they put up a memorial wall to him there, so you may have seen that during your visit. I wish I could remember his handle.

I would pop in during my twice-annual visits, just to leave my "calling card" on their Showdown leaderboard. Almost every time I played there, someone would approach me and say "So *you're* Quahog!!" I met some very nice people there, and some most excellent trivial players.

It will probably be a long time before I play there again, if ever, since my father died. My brother lives near Orlando, and there are some good sites near there. The legendary Holly's and Dolly's is a great place, if you're ever in the Casselberry area. But, come to think of it, it's been a long time since I've seen them on the national leaderboards, so maybe things have changed there as well.

I'm glad you had a good visit there. Thanks for jogging my memories!

You're speaking of John Carter, known far and wide as GONZO. He died of a massive heart attack driving home on I-95 from Jax airport following the 2000 bash in Phoenix. John was one of the finest gentlemen to ever hold a playmaker.

He once composed a song and posted it to the BadBart newsgroup where it still exists in the archives:

SANDBAGGER'S BLUES
by Blind Lemon Gonzo

My box is out of range
and I doan know what to do
My box is out of range
and I doan know what to do

Boss man done re-set the system
but it still too drunk to screw

I come in Monday evening,
but the bar play QB1
Oh, I dropped by Monday eve'nin
and the bar, it play QB1

Ain't no trivia in town nowhere
Ain' no way to have no fun

Lookin' for that heaven
where the monkeys never shine
Searchin' fo' that par-a-dise
where them monkeys they don't shine

They say it's number fo'
Might as well be nine

I rack up one near per-feck
and I wan' the whole world to see
I hit a sco' near perfeck
and I hope the whole world will see

But when the sco-board showin'
I got beat by DAVETV

I bet half my Showdown
on that lowdown number five
I put down half my Showdown
on that turkey number five

But that quiet man in the corner
Sandbag me, he shuck and jive

So now you heard my story
it's a old song sad and true
my box still out of range
and I doan know what to do

I got those
low-down
dark-brown
half-frown
flea.......... bitten hound
bull dozin'
finger fartin'
brain lockin'
(pause for effect)
double dealin'
woman stealin'
plain old
Q-B-One-in'
An-TAG-o-nist-in'
Zealot playin'
'Bused News sayin'
Playback prayin'
Spo'ts trivia layin'
Monkey shinin'
(Another pause for effect as crowd screams old black church cliches
from the audience)
those a** bucket, mother-f***in' long haul truckin'
Sandbagger's BAL-ue-Hooooooos......
