An easy one...? My ass...

Hell, I don't even know who they are, let alone why they are there.

I'm gonna guess that it isn't a World War II anti-war protest. So I am going to ask you if it was some kind of reunion?

I am not sure, but I think the man on the right might be Mel Blanc.

It is indeed Mel & the lady next to him is Bea Benaderet (Aunt Pearl).
I know they both voiced for Looney Toons & also The Flintstones so given there are four of them, I would guess the other two are Fred & Wilma.

Iceman, you are correct. Attached is a picture showing how they paired

Alan Reed (Fred) was best known on the radio as Pasquale on "Life With Luigi" but played many other small roles on other shows like "The Life Of Riley", "The Shadow" and "Duffy's Tavern". He often commented that Fred looked like him

Jean Vander Pyl (Wilma) did several small parts on the radio, including The Jack Benny show. She gave her voice to many cartoons such as "Huckleberry Hound show", "Yogi Bear Show", and was Rosie on the "Jetsons"

Bea Benaderet (Betty) was indeed on Petticoat Junction, but started in radio's most popular shows such as "Jack Benny", "Fibber McGee & Molly", "George Burns and Gracie Allen". In cartoons she also played the Granny for Tweety.

Mel Blanc (Barney)......to outline his career would take miles of typing on a computer screen. I'll leave it up to the reader to research his career.

Iceman, you're next

Enough time has gone by, so I Googled the answer to ICEMAN's upcoming question.

The answer is none of the above.

Apologies for the delay, I've been under the weather. This one should be fairly easy...

At the end of World War II, what name was given to the military recruitment of German scientists?

ICEMAN,

I didn't know so I Googled the answer, but I'm not going to post it yet so other's, who might actually know the answer of the top of their heads, have a chance to answer it first.

Good question, ICEMAN. Thanks I learned something.

Thanks again,

OP

Wow, I hadn't realized how long I'd been away from this thread--not that I would have known most of the answers anyway.

This one is "Operation Paperclip."

This guy should probably be better known today because of something he did on Valentine's Day, 1876. Who was he and what did he do?

Good question.

I kinda cheated to get the answer, so I will hold off on posting the answer for a while.

I don't necessarily think that he should be more well known.
Other than guys storing away sports nuggets to torture friends at a later date, people just don't give a flying finagle who finished second.
I also bet a heck of a lot more people can name him than can name Volcano or Verdigris from the year before.
I think he's about exactly where he should be.

I know that Valentine's Day 1876 is when the phone was patented, but that's tot Alexander G Bell. I think someone else tried to submit a patent for a phone at the same time, but don't know the name. Is this the person who tried to beat out Bell for the patent for the phone?

Yep, Elisha Gray. I'm going to go ahead and give it to you, so you're up.

Yeah, but one can make a strong argument that BELL was actually the one who came in second, and were it not for some seeming shenanigans at the patent office orchestrated by Bell, Gray would have been the one with the patent.

What is a common factor among almost 100% of calico (tri color) cats. I'm not looking for anything color as the answer.

I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of answers this question engenders.

They are female. My mom took in a stray calico once, and our vet said they almost all were females.

And if Charles Martel hadn't committed shenanigans at Poitiers we'd all be speaking Arabic. All's fair in love and... yadda yadda yadda...
