Maybe I overreacted to spotes. However I don't see similar comments being made by anyone else on this thread on the trivia questions posted here and I don't care to be the one being singled out. Therefore, if you have a comment about a question I post here, send me a private message.

Cloudy, the reason that Alston substituted for Mize in that game was that the latter player got ejected. By the time you get to posting again later tonight, it will be going on 72 hours since your correct answer.

I don't think it's right that you publicly singled out Cloudy stating it will have been 3 days since his correct answer. If you have an issue with how long he takes to put up a question you should send him a private message.

Actually, I did. And I don't really have an "issue" with it, but it will be going on three days.

That's the second time you've publicly stated it's been three days so I think you really do have an "issue" with it.

IMO, you're being way too sensitive with this thread. Although there's been some very interesting questions posed, 90% of it has been laughable from day 1, and that's why occasionally people poke fun at various statements here. So nobody should really get their granny panties in a wad.

I don't mind that you take yourself way too seriously.

Calm down boys, I know you are upset because an idiot got credit for the right answer. However, there is some upside to this. The same idiot is going to ask the next "Trivia Chain" question, and it's an easy one. This question is probably more about reaction time, and how fast someone can type the answer in, because you will all know it in a heartbeat. If someone wastes their time Googling the answer, those wasted seconds will most likely give someone, who just typed in the answer lickety–split, the victory on this one.

Here's the trivia question:

Who delivered the famous "Lafayette, we are here!" speech, when the American Expeditionary Force arrived in France in World War I?

(Relax ICEMAN. I just had to enter my question a second time after the "ScaRatings" sent my question to Davy Jones' locker once again. Because I didn't want to go through typing the whole thing in a third time, I hit submit as I worked my way through it, and used edit to finish it. Sorry...)

Who needs the question? The answer is Rome, NY.

And assuming that is correct, I could probably have the next question ready to go before the Cloudmeister types his up. :D

Ah, screw it. I waited 5 minutes, am going to bed.

I will... I will... Just as soon as I see how long this gal, you've posted, can hover in mid-air. I'm thinking that eventually she'll get tired of fluttering there, and gravity will take over. (The picture is ICEMAN's.)

Nice try BO, but for once it's not a Rome, NY. question.

p.s. BO, you should have waited a few more minutes before retiring for the evening. I think you will know this answer. :D

Actually, I think this is more a case that most people will THINK they know it in a heartbeat. The person to whom it is usually attributed is not the guy who said it.

ANON, you are very wise, and are on the right track. I threw a tiny bit misdirection into my question, hoping to trick some of the smart guys into jumping on the most obvious, commonly accepted, incorrect answer.

I think you know the correct answer. Post it ASAP, before someone Googles it and beats you to the answer. :D

I was going to give someone else a chance, but in order to keep things moving, it was General Pershing's aide Colonel Stanton who said those words.

Switching from WWI to WWII, in remembrance of tomorrow's anniversary:

What was the first vessel to be sunk on the day of the attack on Pearl Harbor?

Ding, ding, ding! The destroyer Ward sank a Japanese midget submarine more than an hour before the Japanese planes attacked.

Your turn.

First off... If that lil busybody spotes feels the need to stick his nose in here & embellish my question... Rock & roll dude, you're more than welcome. 8-)

Let's stick with the Pearl Harbor theme.

Beyond the Arizona & Utah, two other hulls were destroyed at Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941. What were they?

ANON, you are absolutely correct, and the next question is yours.

I would like to add that the story. As I know it, Pershing was supposed to give the speech, however Black Jack liked to drink. After the American Expeditionary Force arived in France, Pershing went out drinking to the wee hours of the morning. When the next day came, when he was supposed to deliver his speech, he was too hung over to do it, so his aide Colonel Charles Stanton delivered it for him.

Today, Pershing gets credit for a speech that he never gave, and Colonel Charles Stanton is forgotten.

p.s. It was a good speech. However, Lafayette got paid for helping us during our Revolution, and our Expeditionary Force paid their own way to help the French for free in World War I.

(Belated edit: ANON, it looks like you didn't wait for comfimation that your answer was right, but I guess you didn't need it.)

One was the West Virginia, which was later overhauled and put back in commission. Don't want to ask a question, so I'll stop there.

Nope, that one doesn't count. The ones I'm looking for were not repairable with the same hulls.

Was at Pearl a year ago, visited the Arizona Memorial as well as the USS Missouri. I'll also stop at one and take the Oklahoma.

Good guess but, nope. The Oklahoma was floated again on it's own hull although it later sank.
Hint: These two were both Destroyers & never floated again on their original hulls.
