Well it looks like we now have a thread for folks who are starting to sip the Badge Kool-Aid!

How about setting this up (or setting one up) as a central location for updates on the rarity levels. At least until we all have all 100 and can see them on our own pages. Maybe the first post in this thread (or a new one), edited as needed. Reasoning: I might like to be able to realize instantly that one I just got is a rare one.

I have seen six rarity identifiers: common, not so common, scarce, very scarce, rare and unique. No need to talk about commons. All I can contribute now is that Home Sweet Home and Buzzfuck (aka #@%$!) are scarce.

I might also dare to suggest that when someone wins a particularly rare badge off of a particular question, that that question (topic) and answer NOT be disseminated around here, as a point of integrity. What do y'all think of this.

How in the world are you westerners ever going to score well if you don't get answers fed to you from the east?

BO's joke makes the clarification worth doing.

BO's more savvy than any of us, so he already knows this. In Badge-land, there is no east-west time delay. Everyone who sees a badge question sees it simultaneously. It is one of the last bastions of integrity.

But the question database is recycled and the questions do recur, often within a week. Winning a rare badge might create a temptation to want to discuss the circumstances, etc. When the question recurs, if it has been discussed here, more people will nail it on the recur, win the badge, and affect its rarity rating in a disingenuous way.

I'd like to see particularly difficult questions stay that way, and rare badges stay that way as near as possible to as nature intended.

Since it is impossible to know the rarity of some badges as they are rewarded, I doubt many folks will be able to recall exactly which question garnered each specific badge if their badges are awarded the next day. I don't see letting the cat out of the bag being much of an issue.
But I, of course, would be more than happy to share the question that earned my "Kiss the Cook" badge from last Saturday.
Oh, rat farts! It's been downgraded today to just "very scarce".

How hard must earning a "unique" badge be? The mind boggles...

Well, is the relative rarity based upon the number of times a category is asked, or the number of times it is answered correctly, or just a numeric breakout of how many different badgeholders exist and their quantities ?

I kinda doubt little ol' Scaratings could affect any of these values, compared to the million probably generated in the first two weeks of issuance.

Oh, I expect the Scaratings cohort of players to wind up with the vastly disproportionate fraction of the world's total badges, and an even more disproportionate fraction of the rare ones. And that this site becomes the go-to news source for updates and inquiries. How long before Googling two or three badge names brings someone right here?

I wonder what are the chances of getting a poster, or a t-shirt, with all the badges after I've collected them all.

I'll even pay for it!

I've noticed that the rarest are the sports and religion badges to this point for my game playing.

No sports and 1 religion badge to date.

I'm having some fun making up my own categories for badges won prior to the screen designation.

The buzzies email me a Triple Play badge which is Sports in a way. As long Sports Trivia is still around on the 2nd channel you can't really get a Sports related badge in LTT, CD and LST.

Not me. They can stick their badges were the sun don't shine. One of dumbest ideas ever except for Battle of the Sexes and Know Your Server. Even worse I am seeing people use the smart phone to cheat on this. A new low even for cheats.
I have almost stop playing altogether. Kentucky is at their lowest site count in years. Louisville has been reduced to B-dubs and Old Chicago. Sad times.
