Since the Split, I know people are either still playing Buzztime as normal, playing less or right out stop playing.

Now I may play less due to a new bar which premieres live trivia this Tuesday from an established local live bar trivia outfit Tenacious Trivia. This trivia outfit is cool n fun.....make me wonder Buzztime Live Trivia flopped worst than Ishtar...lol.

So I am creating a poll on this to see who is doing what since the split.

Live Trivia is extremely slow and boring. Also, the borgs are everywhere on their Iphones. That is only my experience.

Live trivia isn't immune from mistakes. Two weeks ago, at the Wednesday night trivia contest at Rookies, I was asked which state the Mojave Desert is in or is primarily in. My answer of California was considered incorrect by the trivia host, who only accepted Nevada as being correct.

As of now we haven't changed, but last Thursday we were playing with WIDGET, who has been a steady BT player for years. Along with the split network, he's unhappy about being disenfranchised as a non-Player Plus person, and so he asked if we'd be interested in forming a live trivia team with him, and we said we would. So I'm definitely looking into our alternatives for Thursday night.

right now i'm down to pretty much handful of games surrounding SIQ, and the occasional saturday lunchtime.

I play live trivia most every Saturday night at 86th St Pub, it's pretty well governed with an iron fist in terms of keeping smart-devices out of use. Too much name that tune possibilities involved to keep me from dominating too much ;), but it's still a nice way to pad out bar tabs with pub gift certs ( ~$2000 in denominations of 10 & 20 over the last 3-4 yrs ).

We have one good live trivia game here that is fast paced. I like that one a lot, but it's on a day most of us can't play. The rest of the live trivia games are so slow I want to claw my eyes out. I'm not sitting somewhere for 2 hours to answer 15 questions while the people I'm playing against are clearly cheating to win a gift certificate.

Last summer they had a live trivia series at the Buffalo Wild Wings here in the western burbs of Chicago. But as you may know, the atmosphere at BWW isn't exactly conducive to playing live trivia. So the guy running it would hand out sheets with the questions and give players and teams a limited amount of time to answer the questions. He would always give the disclaimer for players to not use smartphones, but since players were so spread out, no one really listened. Funny thing is, I was beating most teams by myself. Other than that, my live trivia play is pretty limited as I get up at 4:30 in the morning and find it hard to stay out late enough to play most live trivia games.

That being said, our Buzztime play has dropped. Back in the day, we used to go out on Friday and Saturday nights for the music games. Then we switched to just Saturday when Jukebox and Triviaoke moved to Saturday nights with Playback. Now we only go out to play Playback when the Headliner possibilities give us half a chance, which lately, hasn't been that often.

Hells bells, the atmosphere at most BWWs isn't conducive to playing NTN Buzztime, thanks to the volume of music and/or sports events being cranked up so godawful, horribly high. Image

I haven't seen an understated comic delivery this spectacular since Bob Newhart was in his prime.
I should send you a prize for actually making me laugh out loud on this one.

I haven't played the live trivia at 86th Street that GAVV mentioned since the host had his "Greek, Roman, or both" category and didn't count my correct answer of "both" for Apollo because "he took mythology in college and Apollo was definitely only Greek".
I'm also partial to another trivia host that was convinced by his "research" that Whistler's Mother was painted by James Abbott McNeill. No Whistler... just James Abbott McNeill. Oy vey...
Lucky for you guys there's not enough room on the internet to recap all of the little gems I've endured over the years. ;)

Or when asking about which planet has the most moons when the answer keeps changing and also dependent on whether or not they are referring to just named moons.

He thought that was his profession, he was a "whistler."

The funniest thing I have seen in write in trivia was one team hid an almanac in the Women's bathroom. A girl had to use the restroom every time a question was asked it was funny, they got busted quickly. This question cemented it for us and colluded with the trivia outfit to bust them, "Benjamin Harrison was elected president in 1888, during his first year in office 4 states were admitted to the Union, name them?" They got them right (they were lucky to be able to chew gum, but miraculously aced this one), but since both teams went perfect we had a tie-breaker, What year was Benjamin Harrison elected president? (my wife had removed the almanac) and gave it to the MC. They didn't get within 50 years, but they KNEW what states were admitted? The last two rounds they disappeared off the leader board, couldn't get a question correct. During the last round the MC said, "we received complaints for several weeks about this team, we found their almanac in the bathroom and we are returning it to them now. (walking over to the table and putting it in front of them)" They got booed out of the place, it was a team of 5 (3 guys and 2 girls), the girls started to cry. It was pretty damn funny.

I ran a live trivia contest many years ago, back before all the search engines became proliferated with crap, and it wasn't too hard to get your stuff indexed up quickly. Cell phones were already prevalent then (this was circa 2003/2004) and the rich kids would browse on their phones, and the less rich kids would call people in the dorms to browse info, surreptitiously. I'd make up some fake information, make sure it was indexed and searchable by the time we started playing, then disqualify every team who answered the question right.

I also shattered the cell phone of one of the players at one point. Granted, I got in a little trouble for that, but it was admittedly fun, and got a wide bunch of cheers. Oh, to be young and not worry about the legal system, again.

Needless to say, I don't enjoy administering groups of ignorant corksoakers anymore.

You wouldn't think so, Joel, bu on of the managers at my BWW homesite approached me about doing live trivia there.

I told him "Only on nights with 'rassling' or a UFC fight".

But seriously, it is an option they are looking at.

They do live trivia at the BWW where I play on Wednesday nights. I would play, but people are always looking at their damn phones, and it takes too damn long between questions.

Well, I suppose, but should they give that idea a lil more consideration, they really need to also consider turning the #@%$! volume down more than a lil so players can hear themselves try to think.

Can I vote for Niether?     Since the split and the elimination of the Reward cards, I'm only playing SIQ and Raceday trivia. I continue to play live trivia at Tadpole's with my regular live trivia group.

Neither is when you stop playing Buzztime but not playing live trivia.....your vote is More Live Trivia and Less Buzztime.

I took a break from drivng home last week and played a few games at the BWW in Owatonna, Minn. The bartender told me that Buzztime offers an option for live trivia through their system. BWW Owatonna has it after Six Thursdays. I asked about cheating, and he said they control the speed locally, and speed the game up if people are using the internet. The questions are 1000 points or bust, with no clues.

That's the kind of thing BT should be doing; as opposed to screwing up their primary product.

Well finally played Tenacious Trivia last night and its mainly pop cuture but I finish 3rd of 5 teams. Missed a few questions (Like Jason Robards played Doc Holliday in a movie) but ace on a lot of them.
