As I'm saying in my comments, I really wish this question were worded slightly differently. If I have friends who play BT, we have no problem organizing ourselves into teams--and BT participation would neither be helpful nor appreciated. It's the people who are already playing but who are at best only acquaintances that I could use BT's help in getting more interested in team play (by having BT describe the benefits).
The wording of the question again demonstrates BT's lack of understanding of its product. BT seems to think that people become friends, then go out and play trivia together. Although certainly players encourage nonplayers to try playing for the first time, the teams I've been on have formed from people who had no previous relationship, but became friends through playing together. (And of course, people can also become friends playing against and challenging each other.) So the secret is to get people who are currently playing at a location to start interacting with each other.
