Once Heroes passed us, they pretty much stopped playing Late Shift games until 2 in the morning with 12-18 boards in play.
They fell roughly 100 short of our record of 1491 gold medals though.
Tsk...tsk...
This bar is basically performing a less capable version of what Heroes did; a steady diet of Late Shift games. Their leading gold medalist even played a bunch of them on Christmas night for cryin' out loud.
I don't know whether to be happy or sad for these guys... :?

Very amusing post... Instead of offering kudos, you sound like Michael Jordan giving a HOF speech...

You guys used to consistently play 5 boards apiece on the 10 question games when they were on in the afternoon (and everyday of the week, I might add). How is this any different except we are night owls and play lunchtime on Sunday prior to NFL games?

We are definitely not as good as Heroes, those guys excel at all games, including Showdown and Six. However, based on the criteria it is what it is....It's significantly more of an accomplishment than worrying about players plus points or badge counts...

Actually none of us ever consistently played 5 boards, and only spotes ever occasionally does more than two. Most afternoons back in that time period it was usually a trio (spotes, steve, turbo) with occasionals (jake, myself, mkrchd) who were usually in 1-2 late afternoons/evenings. I'd play (and play) 4 boxes for sports and sci-files, otherwise just the usual 2. We were befallen mostly by work shift changes and partial burnout :).

And after sampling the questions (albeit relatively brief sampling) on saturday nights while playing live trivia and monitoring ntn on the tv, Late Shift seems to be a much easier 'perfect 10' game than the old BT 15 min game.

In a related story, I remember seeing a "Jaws of Life" for sale on ebay about a year ago. I would have gone ahead and bought it if I'd known how handy it would come in today in helping extract your panties from their current wadded position. :P
Come on, clark. You know I was rooting for you to pass Heroes. To my knowledge nobody at that bar has ever let me pummel them about the head and shoulders with questions about one hit wonders from the 70s...
Quite honestly, I don't care how you guys win golds. If you can do it honestly and fairly, I say go for it. Coming in first is always the optimal choice for my money. And I'm sure there will be a revolving door of medal leading sites that favor LS games. Everybody pretty much assumed as much when the schedule was introduced, They did at my bar, at any rate. But comparisons to the old afternoon BT/CD lineup are inequitable. Late Shift is four games an hour while the old afternoon games BT/CDs were three games per hour. Having a 33% increase in gold medal opportunities never hurts. The afternoon crowds were also much larger and less drunk thereby increasing the level of competition measurably. Those games also required 1000 participants, further penalizing limited player participation.
I don't hold any of these differences against you guys or Heroes. I have an equal opportunity to take advantage of these facts if I so choose. But I guess I'm just not motivated enough to go out on Christmas night to play Late Shift. I blame my upbringing...

And I'll take any comparison to Jordan that I can get my hands on.

I knew you'd like the Jordan comparison, if anything :) The top spot will be short lived, as we plan to cut back and stick to occasional premium games and maybe a once-a-week late nighter, probably on Fridays.

To respond to GAVV, the late shift games were easy for awhile, but got way harder than Countdown the past couple of months...I think they were trying to put a stop to the unscrupulous bars taking advantage of the shorter, easier game. I haven't figured out a pattern on Lunch trivia, it can be easy one day, or ridiculously hard on others. I know we've missed a lot of questions on French poets and Janet Evanovich lately

I hear you.
SIQ was the last premium game I had any interest in playing regularly. Its removal got me down to basically one afternoon a week.
At this point my trivia play seems more the product of camaraderie and habituation than interest in the product that BT provides.

Well, something tells me that most (if not all) of us here, plus a good number of our fellow players not in this forum, would agree that NTN BT's use of the total of gold medals from players registered at sites leaves much to be desired as a metric for ranking.

One conclusion that could be made is that game play in general has decreased based on the number of medals accumulated by the top ranking sites. IIRC it wasn't that long ago that the top ranking site had over 1K gold medals.

Seems to be due mostly to the fact that a player transferred their account to Kings Table.
