Did anybody else get this email from Buzzztime?

Due to updated legal requirements, you will be asked to input your birthday when you log in to your PlayersPlus account beginning in May. This will be a one-time occurrence.

Thanks for being part of the Buzztime family!

Cheers,
The Buzztime Team

On the new BWW tablets, this change is necessitated so that it will auto play the Beatles' "Birthday" when you log in on your birthday :P

How is that an "updated legal requirement"? And I've never played on the BWW tablets, new or old.

Prolly? I guess kids under 18 can't get a P+ account just to play Shark Attack.

I see nothing on the buzztime website. It's probably a phishing scam. Might as well seek your SSNs while they're at it.

It is because they don't want players under 18. My sons account was actually locked on the website for a short time until he turned 18, although he was still able to log in and play from the playmaker. He just couldn't log into the site and make any changes.

I wouldn't assume it's about the age of 18. There are a lot of crazy rules about people under 13.

I am astonished to see so few comments on this subject. Is there another thread on it somewhere or has everyone given up fighting for freedom and justice?

Asking one's date of birth is an extreme invasion of privacy, like asking for a Social Insurance Number or Social Security Number. Combining any of these with one's name allows anyone to trace all your records and activities rather easily. It may be necessary for taxation, pension, and employment purposes, but is certainly not for playing trivia. In Canada, requiring the SIN is illegal unless it is specifically permitted by law. I cannot imagine what law Buzztime claims requires this information, but it sure is a good way to alienate more long-time players! If they need to know if someone is over 18, they could simply ask that, rather than requiring them to give their exact age.

At our location, some boards required a date of birth to be logged in and others did not. If they did, we entered 1 January 1901 for all, and that deems to work, but we all hated to have to bend the truth.

Why? I usually make one up if I feel the request is unwarranted.

Is this something that only applies to "Texas Hold'em"...? I never play the game, and have never run into it on regular Buzztime Trivia.

I saw this email about birthday stuff, but didn't play until July 7 and had forgotten about it... There was nothing unusual nor any birthday stuff asked when I logged on to play.

What was up with that?

You had already given BT a birth date years ago on their website as most of us have.

I ignored the email, but today I had to (re)(re) enter my bday when logging on to Buzztime.

It's (re)(re), because I had to confirm it last month for my badge hunter pin confirmation.
