By some unique confluence of events, the last five songs I've heard are:

Family Affair by Mary J. Blige
Her Arms Embrace the Sun by Purple Overdose
Come A Little Closer by Cage the Elephant
Make the World Go Away by Eddy Arnold
and clarinet quintet in b minor by Johannes Brahms

a little something there for everyone to hate...

How these songs keep finding me is a complete mystery.
I blame the internet.
It's evil.

Interesting, the Purple Overdose song sounded like Bowie as lead singer of early Pink Floyd..

They do a spot on effort recreating the psychedelic sound of the early 70s.
I would even go so far as to say they're the greatest retro psychedelic band I've ever listened to that hail from, wait for it.... Greece.
A retro psychedelic band from Greece... ah, that old chestnut.

Here are five Bobby Rydell songs from the last CD I ripped to Windows Media Player:

1- "Wild One"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax-6U-KaBAY

2- "Kissing Time"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EclSZVDJ5E

3- "We Got Love"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lXlq1utdmY

4- "Volare"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AyBIx01yU8

5- "Good Time Baby"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXJ3Ak5gv8Q

Bobby Rydell was my teenage idol in junior high school, and I wore my hair to look like his. I bought every 45 he put out into my high school years. I never thought that I would ever get to see him perform live, but son-of-a-gun, Bobby came to the Kentucky State Fair sometime around the year 2000, and I got to see his show. He was great, and sang most of his hit songs from my teenage years. It was one of the great moments of my life.

2- "Hey Hey"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLXD2A9uXPg

4- "Nobody Knows You When You're Down & Out"

The "Golden Throats" album has some unlikely people covering the hits. Here are five that aren't too bad:

1- "Proud Mary" by Leonard Nimoy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv-TAhHQXmY

2- "Blowin' in the Wind" by Eddie Albert

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uWu-vIUC80

3- "House of the Rising Sun" by Andy Griffith

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_2gdg17rtw

4- "White Room" by Joel Grey

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE91rEmsTeU

5- "Twist and Shout" by Mae West (Believe it or not, Mae could sing, even though she was no spring chicken when she recorded this song. Listen to it.)

Even though Fabian couldn't sing his way out of a wet paper bag with a chainsaw and a blow torch, if his life depended on it, I still like some of his songs. Tonight I ripped the Fabian CD, "This is Fabian", and couldn't resist listening to his songs from my teenage years. Here are the five I liked best:

1- "Tiger"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJYKwXh5YgE

2- "Turn Me Loose"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdaZ7N-W9vw

3- "Hound Dog Man"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ED7Uoe-H8fo

4- "Long Before"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg7rQK_VRBM

5- "Kissin' and Twistin'"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7oXAyBptyw
