Well, hell. Since no one else here seems interested...

As most here should be aware by now, I have lil if any love for that eternally damnable junior university. Most here are likely aware that the current "mascot" for that eternally damnable junior university is "Cardinal", referring to the color.

For a real softball question, what was the mascot of that eternally damnable junior university prior to "Cardinal"?

I know they were the "Indians" for a long time, although I still think they should have gone with the "Trees" to replace it.

Yeahbut... For a short time before they were the "Cardinal", they were the "Cardinals" which followed their being the "Indians". FWIW, the EDJU still has no official mascot, just a name for the team.

It's all yours ANON.

I'll make it easy... The first prototype for this device originated in Japan in 1978.

More specific? You are very close. In other words, in Japan it was known by another name & is known by that name worldwide now.

It is indeed the Walkman.
Since MiniYoda was aboot two thirds of the way there & LILJOL came up with the final answer, I'll let the two of them fight it out.

Gee....thanks....I think.

This year Lauryn Williams became the second American in history to win medals in both Summer and Winter Olympics (fifth overall to accomplish this feat). She won silver this year in bobsled and gold in the 4x100 meter relay in London in 2012, missing out in double gold by a tenth of a second.

However, the first American to win medals in the Winter and Summer Olympics did achieve gold in both of his sports. Eddie Eagan won his bobsled event in 1932, and won gold in 1920........in what sport?

OK, keeping with the Olympic theme: At the first Modern Olympics in 1896, what did the winners of each event receive?

A Laurel & Hardy handshake.
Or just an olive laurel.

An olive branch is half right, but there was something else.

I am somewhat aghast that no one has gotten this yet, but I also sense some aggravation over this question. I don't mean to be an agent of discord, but I am against giving up on it yet, so I'll leave a hint here that the more agile minds might pick up on, and then give it another day or before I put you out of your agony. I hope this is agreeable.

Okay, I'll admit that I broke down & looked it up (shame be upon me).
It would seem a silver medal was also awarded in addition to an olive wreath.

Of course BO knew this all along.
