If sharing answers we always credit those with pre call answers and usually a good time had by all!

Last week I think I missed an opportunity to make trivia buds.

My dad was out of state so I went to play by myself. There were three people there who normally aren't and we had some close games but I ended up winning all four, Sci-Files to Lexitopia. Then I went to play again on Thursday by myself and the three people were back. I beat them for two hours again and left.

Just digging through the data on the website, I saw that these three people had played at the same time a lot so it's clear they are friends. One of them then switched from their out of state location and made my BWW their trivia home so I figured I could count on them to show up again this week. The plan was to at some point (not intentionally) lose a game to them and go up and say hey good game or something since I don't normally introduce myself. But they weren't there either set of games this week.

I have spots 1-9 on the HST for Six at my location. The #10 was someone I knocked off a while back but when some of my scores aged out she came back (which has me curious how many scores are kept but out of sight). She actually came back to like #6 or #7 and it's been a battle kicking her off, especially with all the recent screw ups. But it's finally a thing where the next solid game will knock her off again. Tonight I had a semi-decent final but fell short of passing her score by fewer than 100 points. Yikes! Can't complain though, hit 40k at least.

The real issue is my lowest Lexitopia of the year. Counting one score of 6939 as 7k, I've gotten 7k or above every game I've played this calendar year. Not tonight! Got rocked hard, even missing ones I had seen before. Embarrassing.

Also this thread is more of a personal journal at this point, feel free to ignore. :p It's interesting going back over it and learning of situations I had forgotten about.

Had some very weak showings from 7:30 - 8:00 PM but that's all right because I did very well in Six. I got 46,000 despite being ~4k behind my usual Marathon Six score. I also was 1K under in Easy Six and about 3k from my upper average in Matching. In short, I had a very good Final Six... around 23k or so.

This was a very good game for me. I managed to not drop the Final Six bonus for the first time in eons, for one thing. Also, it was my highest score in a year! And lastly, it knocked off the last non-MRGRAY on the local HST for Six. Now my goal is to fill that local HST with 45k and up. I'd like to think by the time I did that, I'd have a 50k!

I had 25K before the final round, but had to sign off and leave.

Better game tonight, though it was obviously much easier.

I was about to get the Marathon bonus but it was a sports question that kicked my ass. If I had aced it, I would have gone into the final with 29k and some change. Instead I went in with 25k. And you know what? I almost hit 50k.

I lost several points on my 2k question, but saved it somewhere over 1k. I actually got max points on my 4k, 3k, 5k, and 6k wagers. However, another sports question would prove my undoing. I actually thought about going Lakers for Kareem Abdul-Jabar.... but I didn't. Including the bonus, I lost 5k on that question.

So instead of of 24k+ for the final, I had 19k+. Getting that one question would have put me at 49k. Acing the last question on Marathon as well would have put me at 53k! A question or two keeping me from greatness.... Then again, that's basically how Six works lol. Either it's a great score or it looks shitty because you missed a few key questions. Such is life... :p

One was a Bette Midler movie question. I think I blocked out the rest.

Caught the final round, thought BT was giving away free points tonight. The distracting answers were just bad IMO. Nobody should have missed the first 4. On the Kareem Q, it's OK not to know the answer, but everybody should know he played for the Lakers at one point. I can see missing the Van Halen Q if you're not of that era.

So that's almost a free 25k, saw scores went down to the mid 40's for 20th. Were the matching and marathon rounds tough?

I miss Six in a way. More specifically, I miss the old version a lot. I'd make an effort to get out and play if we still had it. It's still a pretty good game, but not good enough to venture out for in my old age. Tonight I feel as old as LILJOL.

Yeah the final was pretty dang easy tonight. Except for the sports for me. I mean all I really knew about Kareem was his fight against Bruce Lee.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ic2k2P_FG0

Sports work differently than a lot of other areas of knowledge... it's pretty insular. Even though I'm not of the era, I got the Sammy Hagar question. Music is much more accessible/less esoteric. I've read about Sammy before just by chance.... I think I saw him on the Simpsons and likewise saw other television shows establishing a Hagar/Van Halen connection. By contrast I may have seen clips of Kareem playing on ESPN one time or something.... and forgot it.

If anything, I'd say not knowing the Kareem question is more understandable than not knowing Hagar. Then again I know most you trivia heads happen to be sports buffs (and somehow enjoy it). I just know I was still in diapers when Kareem retired.

As for matching and marathon... I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. The clue for the final question in marathon six had to do with great lakes but so did two of the answers. Maybe a few matching were weird as well.

the first six of the matching were a breeze. we then missed the first three of the second six. the first match was medieval states to the type of governmental structure. second was to match animals to its family. we are usually terrible with animal questions and this was no different. the third one was to match nascar drivers with their major sponsors. another topic that we know little about. the drivers were recognizable names but it still meant nothing to us.

in marathon there was one question in the first six that got us and one in the last six. there may have been one more we missed in the middle six.

The Nascar sponsors were the easiest 4 questions of the whole game along with the Lakers. Who doesn't know Kareem played for the Lakers, might as well stop playing Trivia if you don't have an idea about that one.

Congrats to BO and BOBO for showing on screen as 1st and 2nd in the Golf topix. Got a good chuckle out of that... BOBO.

I actually got max points on the family question. But it was part subconsciously having seen some of them before, or something. The government one was hard! I got like...one of those? 0 on the damn nascar sponsor question.

While I concur that the Kareem question was straightforward, I did not consider the NASCAR question to be easy, but then I don't follow NASCAR. You did help our bar average by 250 points; if it weren't for your avatar, we would just have gone 1, 1, 1, 1 on that matching question.

Another sport I don't follow is golf, but I will also offer congrats to "BOGUMI" on his efforts on last night's Topix. ;)

As I said when the scores came up, a pox on BOBOBO for choking away that Bronze.

BOBOBO would not have received a bronze. Hell, BOBO didn't get the silver. :D  :D

If Kareem playing for the Lakers is so pathetically easy, maybe it shouldn't be a question asked in a trivia game. You guys are treating it like a question asking the color of the sky. We don't see sky color questions, so perhaps no questions regarding Kareem playing for the Lakers should be had. ;)

There are other Kareem questions to be asked. For example, I was doing some reading on him the other night; his Larry David-esque attempt at a coaching career is much more fascinating material.

I personally think he got screwed when he was snubbed for an Oscar nomination in Airplane.

I'm sorry, son, but you must have him confused with someone else. His name is Roger Murdock. He's the co-pilot.
