From the Blog on BT's site. I don't know where they get their info, that's not how we use the term lone wolf. Precall is accurate, at least:

Buzzspeak Lesson #1

Written by Krazikatt
Tuesday, 18 January 2011 10:53

We here at the Buzztime Institute for Higher Learning think It's important to know a little BuzzSpeak when you head out to your favorite Buzztime hot spot. Here are few quick lessons so you'll know how to handle your fellow Buzztime players.

The more you play Buzztime, the more of these you'll come across. Below are some of the most common species you will find while playing Trivia at your local watering hole:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Playing the piano: Having to change your answer, in CD style questions, after every clue.

Related: Typing - Same as piano playing, but without the style.

Additional Info - The Piano Player is not the Piano Man a la Billy Joel, albeit he or she may sing you a melody.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lone wolf: Person who is not playing, but still feels the need to howl out their answers, right or wrong. Lone wolfs can some times form "wolf packs" dangerous creatures who can wreak havoc on your trivia score.

Related: Trivia Voyeurs - People who don't play, but watch you play. They usually end up saying something like "I thought EVERYONE knew that!" after you miss an answer.

Additional Info - We suggest handing these people their own Playmakers as you may find a new and worthy competitor, or someone to make your score look even better.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Precall: Calling out answers before the answer has been shown. Best if used with an incorrect answer - even better if the answer doesn't appear as one of the choices.

Related: Guess Yeller - Someone who loudly and assuredly states an answer, which turns out to be wrong.

Related: Soundbagging - Deliberately shouting out wrong answers.

Additional Info - These people can often be bribed (hint: buy them a drink and have them sit next to your competition).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Until the next lesson… happy playing!

And the responses on BT:

liljol - Wednesday, January 19, 2011 om 10:34:40 AMWell, I have to add a few lil things here and there to this:

Piano Player - good one!

Lone Wolf - maybe, not so good. IMO, more often used to define a player that insists on playing alone (not that there's anything wrong with that, unless they go on to trash those of us that choose to play collaboratively).

Trivia voyeurs - In my somewhat extensive playing experience, better described as phony baloneys, especially when, after offering them Playmakers, they reply something like "Oh, I *never* do as well then!" Yeah, right.

Precall - More often than not, used in a far more positive mode; there are other terms to describe incorrect precalls but they escape my increasingly decrepit, fragile lil mind for now.

Krazikatt - Thursday, January 20, 2011 om 03:56:43 PMHA... thanks for the input liljol! All of these are taken from the players a year or so ago. We compiled it all into a list and I've been trying to figure out how to use it ;o) You'll need to post after each one of our updates and make sure we've gotten it right! :o)

TLC - Saturday, January 22, 2011 om 08:13:27 PM

Too funny!!!!

Guess we've all experienced the same thing.

Gotta love your terms. I'll bet my watering hole folks will be using them soon.

I agree, I've always heard that applied to solo players. And shouldn't that be "wolves"?

Disrespect to the pack of misspelling wolves. Good catch, ANON

Yeah, they need to patrol the real discussion forums for buzztime players (this site & badbart) if they want to get lingo.

Of course they had access to that lingo with their own forums, but they cut off the hand that feeds them

For a moment there, I thought the biggest upset of that whole post was that LILJOL was actually on Facebook :o But then when I went back and re-read it, I noticed it said Blog on BT's site

There was an entire thread on the old BT forums about trivia player lingo that ran at least three pages of posts. Some of the stories behind the terms were quite funny.

Seems like always with BT, one step forward, two steps back.

Stats are usually lies and damned lies, but:

Over 70% of internet users in America are on Facebook.

Not trying to get on you personally (you may have good reason for jabs, like worry about privacy, etc.), but the people who do the whole "stupid Facebook!" thing sound more and more like the "I don't watch TV!" guy.

And the vast majority of people on Facebook in the US are over the age of 25, with 10% of total US users being over the age of 55.

Said differently, there are _more_ 55+ US users on Facebook than there are < 18 years old.

Then again, you died in 1943, so that probably explains that. Good going on that whole AC thing, BTW.

Someone at my site saw the perfecto and said that was a great game.

I told them that the guy probably answered the last three questions from the floor after falling off his bar stool.

What a coincidence! I believe over 70% of Americans have an IQ around 100.
Like most people who will probably never use Facebook in their lives, I don't necessarily think of Facebook as "stupid"; merely pointless... much like this post.
Besides, what's so good to watch on TV anyway? :P

Sweet! You are now morally obligated tp PM me with the questions since I had to miss this game last night due to helping a buddy chisel his way out of his house.

Good news, Tolle.
Since the average extends from the median, technically you're only missing out on the upper roughly 15 percent. I bet you feel smarter already.

I have another term that I use for "trivia voyeurs"; it's "fresh meat"

I think the standard deviation at the next bash would be interesting.

I always wonder if it was like that when the majority of people first started using cars, people going, "I don't need one of them contraptions, I've got my horse!"

and with the telephone, "What wood I need tha crazy talkin box for? I can just walk to Jed's house if I wanna talk to 'im!"

etc etc

I don't know who you are any more. You are no longer invited to play golf with the pros later in the month.

I however will stand fast, unaffected by peer pressure. Anybody I want to communicate with I have their phone number.
