Here's hoping that my California Golden Bears become bowl eligible after taking down those oregon state beavers. Image. THE ICEMAN'S Arizona State Sun Devils should once again have a one game lead on the southern campus at the end of this day after they take down the hapless wazzu cougars, since the bruins travel to hopefully lose to The Utah Utes, who also need a win today to become bowl eligible.Image

And, of course, it would be absolutely wonderful if The Oregon Ducks destroy the eternally damnable junior university's wet dreams of continuing undefeated and playing for the BSCS Championship, and those damnable tucson mildrats become the colorado buffaloes' first victims in their first season in The Pac-12. Thanks much for the morning brew. Image

You forgot to say something aboot the SC/hucking fuskies game.

Well, hell, my bad. Then again, given that The Trojans are bowl ineligible and those huckable fuskies are pretty much stuck in 3rd place in The Pac-12 North, that game seems more than a lil irrelevant to other than the participants and their fans.

BTW, it is more than a lil overdue that I admit to being in more than a lil bit of an embarrassing predicament on Wednesday evenings following my usual NTN Buzztime sessions at Pacific Beach Bar & Grill. One of my teammies and I make a walk to another bar in the Pacific Beach area for some live trivia. At the entrance to the commodes is one of those godawful, horrible red, white & blue block As of those damnable tucson mildrats. I must remind myself "...no, liljol, relieve yourself inside the men's room..." Image

Well, for the second Sunday in November 2011...

Image Image Image Image Image Image

First, the good news...my California Golden Bears became bowl eligible after taking down the oregon state beavers; those damnable tucson mildrats became the colorado buffaloes' first victims in their first season in The Pac-12; the southern campus bruins took a beatdown from The Utah Utes, who also became bowl eligible; and the seattle fuskies got hucked by The Trojans.Image

Next, the really good news...The Oregon Ducks destroyed the eternally damnable junior university's wet dream of continuing undefeated and playing for the BSCS Championship, whilst also dealing a major blow to another wet dream of another Heisman Trophy finding its way to the eternally damnable junior university. Image

Unfortunately, there is also some not so good news; THE ICEMAN'S Arizona State Sun Devils, with the table set to take back a one game lead on the southern campus, inexplicably fell to the wazzu cougars, who kept their faint hopes of bowl eligibility alive.Image

As a bit of a pre-emptive strike I bring you some coffee for this Thanksgiving. I will be a bit pre-occupied for the next couple of days so I hope you will indulge me... 8-)

ImageImageImageImageImageImage

After a thoroughly frustrating & aggravating loss to the farging UofEH? mildrats certain things need to happen for my Sun Devils to advance to the first ever PAC-12 Championship game. Utah needs to beat Colorado, seems doable... USC needs to beat FUCLA, works for me... And then my Sun Devils need to beat liljol's Golden Bears.

Hmmmm, I'd like to say that I wish liljol & his cherished Cal Golden Bears good luck this Friday... I'd like to say that... I'd like to but... Hell, who am I kidding? I hope my Sun Devils crush the dancing bears.

Image

DISCLAIMER: It is hoped that the lildude will take the above message with a grain of salt. Apologies for the avatar. It will disappear after the game on Friday.

For Thanksgiving Day 2011...

Image Image Image Image Image Image

My schedule for this long weekend forces me to make my lil say over Friday evening's Pac-12 game today. The impact of The Golden Bears and The Sun Devils' matchup is far different than I thought it would be a few weeks ago. Based on my lil peek into the Pac-12 statistics through last week, the referees may well decide this game, since The Golden Bears and The Sun Devils are 1-2 in total yards penalized. Image

From what I can figure out from Rivals.com's most recent bowl projections, apparently they have concluded that my Golden Bears will emerge victorious, since there is no other way they could be slotted into The (Just Plain Old) Site-Poor Backyard Bowl 2 (Holiday Bowl). Unfortunately, they also have both The Oregon Ducks and that eternally damnable junior university slotted for BSCS bowls. Image

As improbable as this will sound, I would prefer that THE ICEMAN's Sun Devils win this game Image, if only to all but solidify The Golden Bears playing in The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, which would be another home game for them. The prospect of The Golden Bears having to possibly face The Baylor Bears in the Holiday Bowl is one more than a lil too godawful and horrible for me to consider. Image

Strange how things work out. I just dragged my poor tired lil old grumpy ass back from my first NTN Buzztime home, Black Angus San Lorenzo, where I saw the final score of Colorado-Utah just after banging away at The Season for the 11th time this year. The Golden Buffaloes' unexpected win over The Utes has handed UCLA the Pac-12 South Championship, rendering the Golden Bears-Sun Devils game almost meaningless except for bowl selections. Image

For the fourth and last Saturday of November 2011...

Image Image Image Image Image Image

Certainly, an entertaining game between The Golden Bears and The Sun Devils, despite the unexpected win by Colorado over Utah earlier to eliminate The Sun Devils from winning the Pac-12 South. The ESPN broadcast team made much of the two personal fouls called on The Sun Devils' best defensive player, which led to one Golden Bear TD and his benching for the rest of the game. The referees were certainly throwing their yellow hankies more than a lil, flagging The Golden Bears six times and The Sun Devils eleven. Image

It will be more than a lil interesting to see where both The Golden Bears and The Sun Devils go bowling. Image Image

First of all... Thanks for the the morning brew. 8-)

For once you were correct in your predictions lildude, the refs had more than a lil to say aboot the outcome. More than one bogus call for each side.
Time will tell whether Erickson survives this more than disappointing season. Congratulations to the Golden Bears.

Well, for the fourth and last Monday of November 2011...

Image Image Image Image Image Image

Dennis Erickson's last game as the head coach for The Sun Devils will be whatever bowl game they play. Meanwhile, THE ICEMAN's good buddy Rick Neuheisel's last game as the UCLA head coach will be The Pac-12 championship game in the friendly confines of Autzen Stadium. It will be way more than a lil interesting to see who their successors will be.

Edit - As of Tuesday, 11/29, the wazzu cougars dismissed Paul Wulff, making four Pac-12 teams that will have new head coaches for the 2012 season. The damnable tucson mildrats have already hired former West Virginia and Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez; remains to be seen how soon he can bring the mildrats back from this year's suckitude, if at all.

For the first Monday of December 2011...

Image Image Image Image Image Image

Dennis Erickson's last game as the head coach for The Sun Devils will be The Las Vegas Bowl, facing The Boise State Broncos. :| Meanwhile, my California Golden Bears will make their third trip to The Holiday Bowl, facing brandyb's Texas Longhorns, making their fifth trip. :o

This will be the fifth game between The Golden Bears and The Longhorns, and so far this series has been all Longhorns. According to one report, The Golden Bears and The Longhorns also have a home and home series in 2015 & 2016. :(

Image Image Image Image Image Image

THE ICEMAN's Arizona State Sun Devils are still looking for Dennis Erickson's replacement as head coach. Meanwhile, the other three Pac-12 members that dismissed theirs have already found their replacements. :o

Turning for a moment to men's basketball, The Golden Bears are off to a decent start, save that godawful, horrible beatdown by The Missouri Tigers. Meanwhile, The Sun Devils got bad news this week, finding out that their top recruit PG is not eligible this year. :(

Yes indeed, the head coach circus continues. Image
First the VP for Athletics, Lisa Love & her traveling show went after Kevin Sumlin who went to Texas A&M, then she went after June Jones - the alumni shot that one down, then Larry Fedora who went to UNC.
Now they are looking at names like Kyle Whittingham, Paul Chryst, Jim Leavitt, etc, etc, etc... Image Image
It's entirely possible that ASU 'might' actually have a head coach by the time next season starts.

THE ICEMAN's Arizona State Sun Devils have finally found Dennis Erickson's replacement as head coach. However, Todd Graham, most recently head coach of The Pittsburgh Panthers, has a dubious history of moving around:

Thanks very much for the morning brew lildude. 8-)

As for the new coach at ASU, when I first heard on the radio that ASU had named Todd Graham the new head football coach my immediate response was... WHO?

I have seen a couple of Pat Forde articles ragging on Graham. Something tells me his nuts are tweaked aboot Graham.

As I learned more about him the more I started to like him. Granted, I am somewhat apprehensive of his propensity to change jobs but after watching the introduction news conference I came out with a good feeling that he was sincere in stating he would stay to build the program. I know that sounds a bit pollyannic, but one has only to look at his record & find that he has taken programs with very little & made good strides, i.e. Rice & Tulsa plus his desire to be close to family here in the Valley of the Site-Rich-Never-Ending-Sun.

As far as the Pac 12 goes, things should be very interesting the coming years. With new coaches at ASU, Wazzu, UofEhh?, FUCLA and the scavenging of assistant coaches within the conference, I feel there will not be a lot of secrets in this conference. FUCLA scavenged from the ASU Erickson regime, Rich Rod at the UofEhh? scavenged from Graham's Pitt staff, etc. etc.

Many sports pundits are saying the Pac 12 will soon become an even more powerful player in college football, time will tell.

THE ICEMAN's Arizona State Sun Devils ended Dennis Erickson's time as head coach by absorbing a godawful, horrible beatdown from the frustrated and angry Boise State Broncos in The Las Vegas MAACO Bowl. Meanwhile, the TCU Horned Frogs had more than a lil difficulty getting past The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. :o

I can only hope that my California Golden Bears make their third trip to The Bridgeport Holiday Bowl more like their second than their first, as they also try to score their first win ever over The Texas Longhorns.

Well, let me just say that the game I saw last night was just about the sloppiest, most undisciplined performance of a college football team I have ever seen. It made me sick. Image
Boise State was a team that was very beatable if it weren't for ASU shooting themselves in the foot all the time. Image Image Image
You would think that Erickson was coaching like it was his last game or something. Image Image
I'm sure the new ASU coach, Todd Graham, was taking plenty of notes.

Anyway, good luck to Cal Image in their game against FTEXAS. Image

For Christmas Day 2011...

Image Image Image Image Image Image

With the 2011-12 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision nearly over, the Division I Men's Basketball season is in full swing. My California Golden Bears ended their preseason with their second godawful, horrible beatdown, this time at the usually unfriendly Thomas & Mack Center, at the hands of one of the Mountain West Conference favorites, The UNLV Runnin' Rebels. :( The Golden Bears open Pac-12 play in the friendly confines of Haas Pavilion, hosting The USC Trojans Thursday and the stumbling southern campus bruins Saturday.

Meanwhile,THE ICEMAN's Arizona State Sun Devils will have to play this year without their primary recruit point guard, who was declared ineligible. The Sun Devils' first Pac-12 game is Saturday, taking the short drive east to hopefully take down those damnable tucson mildrats. Due to the change from Pac-10 to Pac-12, my Golden Bears and THE ICEMAN's Sun Devils will play each other only once this season, February 4 at Haas Pavilion.

Coffee Drinkers thread...?

Out of boredom, I decided to take a peek at "The Coffee Drinker's" thread again. Hell, there ain't nobody talking about coffee here. Why in the world is this called "The Coffee Drinker's" thread...?

I was about to put a great post up here about the "Chock full O' Nuts" cafes in New York City, until I figured out that this thread has absolutely nothing to do with coffee. Perhaps a better title for this would be "The Kool-Aid Drinker's Thread".

Shame, shame, shame, Cloudy. You should have realized that this thread is not simply for extolling the virtues of various coffee types & flavors, although that does come up from time to time. Image

This thread is for pretty much whatever comes up, mostly your favored sports team. But be prepared to be ragged upon (in a good natured way) if the other regulars here disagree with your views. Image Image

Image One other thing, if you should be the first poster to this thread of the day you are obligated to bring the coffee. That having been said, here's the coffee...

ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Now you know.Image

So from now on Cloudy, bring on the coffee...

My California Golden Bears make their third appearance in what is now The Bridgeport Holiday Bowl, squaring off against The Texas Longhorns. IMO a lil too much has been made of what happened back in 2004, when The Longhorns ended up in The Rose Bowl and The Golden Bears ended up here, making their first appearance an embarrassing one. Hopefully The Golden Bears will make this third appearance more like the second one, with the obvious exception of their final and most unnecessary TD as time ran out against The Texas A & M Aggies. Image
