Tuned In and Immortal Words would likely be before Six, Topix after. Other than that, they might play around with Monday or Saturday, but the impression that I get is that this will be the new schedule.

The one thing the players did not predict three years ago was that moving the schedule up in the East zone would result in more people playing there. Why would BT lose that gain in the hope of getting back some of the West zone players? Maybe they'll move some of the specialty games around, but I can very well see them letting the premium games stay where they are in what is currently the East zone and just seeing what happens in what will then be the former West zone.

Hour long games any earlier than 6 in the Pacific Time Zone may as well not even air.

They wouldn't lose any gain, there isn't a gain anymore..

Also, while I don't know the numbers for bar retention, I'd think that is at least as important to BT as player count. If drop in playership in the West led to bars dropping BT, as it seems happened a bit, and increases in playership in the East haven't led to new accounts to make up for it, then this makes much sense.

My original projection has the lesser games first at 5p pst, follow by games like Brainbuster, Topix and SciFiles at 5:30, then the premiums at 6p

Someone thinks the one i made is what it should be

We'll waiit to see when the official schedule comes out

In other words, you're putting the game blocks back to where they were before the Split. And at the time, I thought moving them a half hour earlier in the East zone would have a negative impact on number of players, but in fact it had a positive impact. So the reality is that people in the Eastern and Central time zones like the premium games at their current slots.

Maybe there wouldn't be any player dropoff if Eastern and Central time zone blocks were moved back to their original position. Maybe even if there were, there would be enough players added in the Mountain and Pacific time zones to offset the loss. But those are two pretty big "if"s. The less risky strategy is keep what you have in the Eastern/Central zones and hope there are people with flexible schedules who can be lured back in the Mountain/Pactific zones.

And please note I'm not trying to disenfranchise the West zone people--it would be absolutely wonderful if there were a way for people in four different time zones to play the same game at the same convenient time. But it doesn't work that way, and the problem with the premium games being too early in the West zone is not unique. It also wasn't fixed by having the games at a convenient time (i.e., the rationale for the Split). Also if BT decided to shift the game block later in the Central time zone, it wouldn't affect me negatively as both COOGS and I have completely flexible schedules--in fact it would help me get a little more work done before heading out for dinner and trivia. But it's a whole lot easier to hold on to someone you already have (i.e., people playing in the East zone at the current time) then attract back a person currently not playing in the West zone. So if I were BT, I'd leave the games where they are in the Eastern and Central zones, develop new specialty games that could be played after the premiums and so be perhaps more accessible to the Mountain/Pacific zone people (and also perhaps delay the post-Countdown dropoff in the current East/Central), and celebrate the reunification of the network with well-publicized competitions. (Smartest Bar would be a start, but others are possible--how many years has it been since there was any type of Spotlight tournament, for example?)

I also would recognize that site retention has a lot to do with whether a site ever connects to a player base and if it is able to maintain that base. As we have seen locations prosper, stagnate, or fail over the years (most locations falling into the last two categories), players have a lot of info on and experience in what separates a location that draws a crowd at least one night a week and maybe also has some regular daytime players and a location where the boxes/tablets barely get out of the charger. That info is readily accessible, but no one ever seems to want it, so the cycle repeats: new location acquired, there aren't a sufficient number of players to cover the subscription cost, location drops subscription. That's a cycle that certainly can be broken, but the location needs some sort of support to do so, and even if BT doesn't have the resources to provide that support directly, it certainly could empower its players to provide it. Maybe now that they've started listening to us on one thing, they can listen to us on others.

Brooke, the East participation is way down as well. We don't know when they will release the schedule, but having the premiums at 5 PST does absolutely no good to us. I don't care how flexible your schedule is 5pm would be awful. I get out on Wednesdays for Sci-Files, now I could make it by the one game after SIX. Thanks, I'll just stay home. I am happy the split will be gone, but it will be nearly impossible to get numbers up anyway. They waited way too long to fix this.

I wonder if Buzztime will say, "congrats time zones, Rockin Crepes can stop winning Spotlight. Not because you "went to sleep, but they aren't off work yet so you can win now""

830 for Playback if there isn't a CD stuck after Playback. 830 is a fine compromise except for those in the west used to 8pm. But there wasn't many of them.

Buzztime also posted on the ad screen tonight that Playback will start at 8:30 EDT.

So if everything is moved a half hour back, I guess the current East zone locations are losing one post-Countdown game, meaning there will be only two CD games in the Central time zone, and only one in the Eastern time zone. If so, that will probably mean a net reduction in current East zone play for those who leave when Late Shift starts, and aren't going to get there early enough for a pre-Showdown Countdown game. Unless of course BT recognizes that people like to play Countdown network-wide, and does away with Late Shift or at least shifts it later in each zone.

I don't know why they keep LS anyway.
If they simply loaded CDs after premiums and specialty games they could both maintain unified programming and save the production cost of ten questions per hour.

I rarely play The Late Shift, but I had to pick my daughter up from work at RTO's tonight and hung around for a few games. Looks like they lifted the split on that game already. I saw location rankings from FL, NY, WI, and other states, as well as a few from Canuckistan.

I play central and eastern time and like the 7pm and 8pm respective premium starts. The interest isn't there anymore for a 9pm eastern start for me. Part of my lack of interest is I don't care about today's celebrity driven pop culture, CW tv shows for teenagers, and hip hop/rap. Also the small premium games such a Retroactive, Mini Six, Jukebox etc were more attractive to me than their replacements. Whatever they do, if improved content isn't there the results BT is hoping to achieve aren't going to happen.

A Saturday or Sunday afternoon premium block starting 4pm eastern/ 1pm pacific would be great.

Well, hell. Maybe we should give the revised schedule a lil time to settle in before suggesting more tweaks. In particular, there seems to be lil if any purpose served by adding premium blocks on the weekends. Image

Well I'm not personally excited about the setup because I'd prefer the schedule where the hour long game is the final game. After an hour grind in a single game, you do feel like you're done for the night... but then bam PasTimes and Lex. And the West Coast does seem boned for the 5 PM games depending on their job. But I am excited that the network is national again. And as someone who is dabbling in TLS but doesn't like to play Countdown, it's nice to have that 30 minute wait gone.

I dunno. I enjoyed the 30 minutes of Countdown at 9:30 before cashing out for the night. Plus, it was a good chance to get a top bar score as a lot of folks departed as soon as or before prime time ended.

Hey Scarating peeps, Buzztime via Jamie Hilton's account here. The schedule is now live on the website now so the word is out and emails are going out to players momentarily. Good sleuthing in the meanwhile.

This is all a positive development for those of us in the Mountain time zone. My wife and several of her friends do play Showdown, but the 9pm finish time was pushing things for her. She much, much prefers the earlier start time. Playing on the same feed is just a huge win for us, no matter how you slice it. Very glad that Buzztime listened on this one and returned to the single feed.
